The Washington Examiner’s Byron York suggested the 2024 election cycle reflects how the younger voting demographic has now changed, specifically how the Democratic Party’s stance on various issues does not resonate with many in this voting bloc.
York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, explained how the “progressive” research firm Catalyst conducted its most extensive study on the 2024 electorate and discovered that the Democratic Party lost “significant numbers” among voters between 18-44. The report also showed that the party lost “big time numbers” among minority voters, with the loss “especially” noticeable among younger minority males.
As such, York argued that President Donald Trump’s latest appearance at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 316 event, which went viral on social media, represented “the physical embodiment” of the report on the Democratic Party losing support from youth.
“Voters, potential voters 18-29 who are not gonna vote for the Democratic Party, they have changed, and they feel that the Democratic Party simply does not appeal to them,” York explained on Fox News’s Fox & Friends Sunday.
One strategy that the Democratic Party is seeking to enact is a $20 million project aimed at improving how the party and its candidates can improve their communication among male voters. York noted how the news of this project received a lot of “deserved ridicule,” and that the party’s loss among voters stems from its “record” in advocating for policies like transgender rights and reparations.
An example York cited was when Trump highlighted how former Vice President Kamala Harris supported taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for imprisoned illegal immigrants during the presidential debate. York suggested that many voters likely thought that Trump was incorrect before discovering that he was telling the truth, and that the Democratic Party simply cannot make its “long record” of supporting policies like this “go away.”
THE ABOLITION OF DEMOCRATIC MEN
Ahead of the 2028 election, several potential Democratic presidential candidates like Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) have begun to shift toward the center in terms of policy, with York pointing to the governor calling it unfair for biological men to compete in women’s sports. However, York also questioned if this would work with voters given the party’s recent record, as one cannot simply “reinvent yourself in a day.”
