President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account on Sunday evening to encourage Pennsylvanians to vote against the retention of Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices, which are being held on November 4.
The elections determine if the three current state Supreme Court justices, Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht, all Democrats, will serve another ten-year term. They were initially elected in 2015, which gave Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court a 5-2 Democratic majority.
“Attention Pennsylvania: On November 4th, you can bring back the Rule of Law, and stand up for the Constitution,” Trump said in his post. “There are three Radical Democrat Supreme Court Justices on the Ballot for a 10 year retention. Vote “NO, NO, NO” on Liberal Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht. These activist Judges unlawfully gerrymandered your Congressional maps, which led to my corrupt Impeachment(s), and locked you up during COVID by closing your small businesses, schools, and churches.”
Trump commented that the judges were weak on violent crime offenders, interfered in the 2020 presidential election, and were essentially an extension of the Biden administration. He urged voters to take this into consideration and vote against them receiving another ten-year term, stating that now was the time to vote for “justice.”
“They let sex offenders out of prison, and ruled for Sleepy Joe Biden over and over, and interfered in the 2020 Election,” Trump claimed. “It is time for Justice. Vote “NO, NO, NO” on retention of these woke Judges.”
Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) fired back at Trump’s post, claiming the president had no legs to stand on when it came to the rule of law.
“Donald Trump has zero credibility when it comes to the rule of law,” Shapiro said in a post on X. “Remember, this is the guy who tried to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes and overturn the 2020 election, who pardoned the people who assaulted law enforcement on January 6th, and who I’ve beat dozens of times in court.”

“On Tuesday, vote YES to retain our Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justices and send a message that here in the birthplace of freedom, we respect the rule of law and an independent judiciary,” Shapiro said.
Pennsylvania’s retention elections have been in effect since 1968, according to reports. Since then, only one judge from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has not been retained in an election, and that was 20 years ago in 2005 with then-Supreme Court Justice Russell Nigro.
