Trump trashes Musk’s ‘America Party’ as ‘ridiculous’

President Donald Trump voiced his opposition to Elon Musk‘s formation of a third party, dubbed the “America Party,” slamming it as a “ridiculous” idea following Republican successes in the 2024 election cycle and the passing of his signature tax and spending bill late last week.

Musk, a former top adviser to Trump before a public fallout over the “big, beautiful bill” all but severed the relationship, announced he would be starting the “America Party” on Saturday after an X poll showed a majority of respondents in favor of it.

Trump gave his first public response to the news in remarks to reporters on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey, casting doubt on any real threat it poses to the the U.S.’s “two-party system.”

“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. It really seems to have been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it but I think it’s ridiculous,” the president said.

Trump later amped up his criticism of Musk’s idea in a scathing post on Truth Social, saying it will only lead to “Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!” Trump posted.

Despite Trump’s criticism, Musk’s poll saw nearly two-thirds of respondents vote in favor of his “America Party” proposal, which he said would now be formed “to give you back your freedom.”

MUSK SIGNALS FORMATION OF ‘AMERICA PARTY’ FOLLOWING X POLL

Musk has suggested that goals for a hypothetical “America Party” are small gains in Congress amid a time of small majorities, specifically targeting two to three Senate races as well as eight to 10 House elections.

“Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” he explained.
