“I want to tell you that I’ve never seen people so happy in our country because so many different groups of people are being taken care of; the military, civilians of all types, jobs of all types. We’re adding things like the biggest tax cut in the history of our country,” Trump said before signing the bill outside the White House. “So many things are being added that you– we wouldn’t even have time to discuss them when we were doing it.”
The president gave a shout-out to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), both of whom played instrumental roles in getting their party’s lawmakers to vote in favor of the bill, as well as multiple other lawmakers who helped get the legislation over the finish line. Johnson presented Trump with the gavel he used on Thursday to pass the bill in the House.

The bill’s signing comes one day after House Republicans passed the measure in a final 218-214 vote, sending it to Trump’s desk. Only two Republicans, Reps. Thomas Massie (KY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), joined all Democrats in opposing the bill. The Senate passed the bill earlier this week.
Several House Republicans initially opposed the bill but later changed their votes after conversing with Johnson. Given his razor-thin majority, the speaker couldn’t have lost more than three Republican votes if all Democrats remained in opposition.
Trump claimed the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill” was the “most popular bill ever signed” in the nation’s history, particularly because it includes the largest spending cut of $1.7 trillion. The legislation also includes tax cuts on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, which he promised during his campaign.
Before Trump’s speech, B-2 bombers flew over the White House in a show of patriotic display. Trump saluted the bombers as they flew overhead.
Trump dedicated a portion of his speech to talking about the fighter pilots who targeted three Iranian nuclear sites in Operation Midnight Hammer last month. He hailed the operation as a “flawless mission” that caused “total obliteration” to Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
