President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he will be directing all federal and local law enforcement to be at the disposal of Savannah Guthrie and her family as the search continues for her missing mother, Nancy.
“I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump said in the post. “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!”
The Today co-host’s mother has been missing for four days after disappearing from her Arizona home.
The 84-year-old woman was last seen Jan. 31 and was reported missing the next day after she failed to attend church.
Savannah Guthrie posted a recorded video on Wednesday addressing her mother’s kidnapper after hearing reports of ransom letters.
“We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated,” she said. “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.”
Several media outlets reported receiving ransom notes, one of which requested several million dollars in bitcoin and threatened to kill Nancy Guthrie if the money wasn’t sent.
The case escalated when authorities found evidence at her residence that suggested she did not leave voluntarily. Officials said they are looking at Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance as a likely kidnapping.
The FBI has been assisting the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies with investigative support. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has also sent officers and deployed tracking dogs due to the proximity to the Mexican border.
On Tuesday, Trump expressed his sadness at the news of her mother’s disappearance.
“I always got along very good with Savannah,” the president said Tuesday. “Very unusual situation.”
Nancy Guthrie is said to be mentally agile, eliminating any theories that she wandered off in a confused state. There is a note of urgency, as she takes medication daily and could die without it.
