Trump and Musk shake hands during Charlie Kirk’s memorial in Arizona

President Donald Trump and businessman Elon Musk shook hands as they sat next to each other at Charlie Kirk’s memorial, months after the two publicly broke up their alliance.

Musk ended his alliance with Trump in June when he slammed the president’s spending and tax package as a “disgusting abomination,” and also said in a deleted X post that the president is in the Epstein files. Three months later, however, the two were spotted sitting next to each other during a memorial for Kirk, who was assassinated while speaking at a college event in Utah on Sept. 10.

The White House’s Rapid Response X account shared footage of the two shaking hands as Musk stood up to leave, posting a handshake emoji with the footage.

Eric Trump, the president’s son, also shared a photo on Instagram of the two sitting together, writing “The band is back together!”

Trump reflected on the breakup between him and Musk on earlier this month, telling commentator Scott Jennings in an interview that Musk is “a good man” who went “off the reservation.” Vice President JD Vance, meanwhile, has expressed hope that Musk will return as a Trump administration ally around the time of the 2026 midterm elections

Kirk’s memorial was held in Glendale, Arizona, where multiple Trump administration officials, Kirk’s widow Erika, as well as Trump and Vance delivered speeches commemorating the Turning Point USA founder. Vance described the funeral as “a revival,” and deemed Kirk “a hero to the United States of America” and “a martyr for the Christian faith.”

Musk shared footage of the State Farm Stadium on X, saying it’s “packed to the ceiling” and he is “honored to be here.” In a separate post, Musk said Kirk was “murdered by the Dark for showing people the Light.”
