The networks were mostly respectful toward the Charlie Kirk memorial service on Sunday in Arizona, unlike some left-wing outlets.
“HuffPost” — formerly The Huffington Post — ran the headline “KIRK MEMORIAL RAGEFEST: TRUMP ‘HATE’ EULOGY.” The New York Times headline was “At Kirk Service, an Extraordinary Fusion of Government and Christianity.”
To put it mildly, this was not how The Times covered the funeral of former president Jimmy Carter, the Southern Baptist. One of their headlines touted Carter as a “practitioner of good works,” not a threat to that “separation of church and state.”
NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck and MRC Director of Media Analysis Geoff Dickens joined the show. Curtis recalled how the Kirk service was uplifting, and Charlie Kirk understood that we need to engage respectfully with those we disagree with, something that the left refuses to do.
Geoff did a deep dive into hearings by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, led by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.).
The networks don’t think House hearings are newsworthy when Republicans run them. For four months, Comer’s committee has been probing ex-Biden officials about hiding President Biden’s mental decline. Overall, the broadcast networks have spent only 5 minutes, 50 seconds total in four months since the hearings began (June 18 through to September 19). That coverage all arrived on NBC and PBS (and just 33 seconds on PBS). ABC and CBS have done NOTHING on the Biden mental decline hearings.
Comer’s hearings weren’t public, but that didn’t mean the testimony couldn’t be summarized by journalists. Never forget that all of these networks offered live coverage of every second of the Pelosi-Picked Panel on January 6 hearings. The Republicans were not allowed to send their choices into the committee. The two “Republicans” were indistinguishable from the committee Democrats. Those committee members were all over the Sunday shows, while Comer and his colleagues are not.
