Texas is doing the job that America won’t. While Al Qaeda leaders, Qatari and Saudi leaders parade through D.C., Texas Gov. Abbott announced a big move against the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR.
Governor Greg Abbott today designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal organizations. This designation authorizes heightened enforcement against both organizations and their affiliates and prohibits them from purchasing or acquiring land in Texas.
“The Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR have long made their goals clear: to forcibly impose Sharia law and establish Islam’s ‘mastership of the world,’” said Governor Abbott. “The actions taken by the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR to support terrorism across the globe and subvert our laws through violence, intimidation, and harassment are unacceptable. Today, I designated the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal organizations. These radical extremists are not welcome in our state and are now prohibited from acquiring any real property interest in Texas.”
The official proclamation may only have so much teeth, but it covers the Jihadist history of both the Brotherhood and front groups like CAIR. It concludes by mentioning CAIR’s support for the Oct 7 attacks by Hamas, another arm of the Brotherhood.
CAIR responded by threatening a lawsuit. Taking a cue from Tucker Carlson and the woke right, the Islamist group accused Abbott of being “Israel first” and criminalizing “criticism of the Israeli government.”
And then complained about ‘Islamophobia’. But the only Islamic terrorist group it was willing to condemn was ISIS. (That’s because ISIS targets other Muslims.)
The media falsely took to describing CAIR as a “civil rights group”. The AP predictably failed to note any of CAIR’s support for terrorist groups and claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood had long ago disavowed violence. That doesn’t jibe with any of the recent history in Syria, Libya or Egypt.
The real question is whether the federal government will follow up.
Texas had taken the lead in designating Tren de Aragua as a terrorist organization alongside various cartels before the Trump administration adopted that approach and began taking them out. Now let’s see if the Trump administration is willing to name the Brotherhood a terrorist organization.
