Supporters of Destroying Statues Sue Over Kennedy Center Renovations

The DC Preservation League and Cultural Heritage Partners championed the woke destruction of statues and monuments during the BLM riots.

As our nation continues to contend with racial and social justice issues, the meaning and fate of monuments that fail to represent our American ideals are being debated throughout the country. Our firm has been deeply engaged in several matters involving Confederate “Lost Cause” monuments. We proudly represent clients who seek to have monuments removed from public lands, relocated, or recontextualized in order to be able to tell fully truthful history and create a more inclusive future.

Then the law firm announced that it opposed any changes to the Eisenhower Office Building and is fighting the Kennedy Center renovations.

“The Kennedy Center is not a personal project of any president. It is a national cultural monument built to honor John F. Kennedy and to serve the American people,” Rebecca Miller, executive director of the DC Preservation League, one of the plaintiff organizations in the lawsuit, said in a statement.

It was fine to demolish statues, but we can’t renovate an ugly modernist mausoleum that shouldn’t have existed in the first place and that no one outside D.C. cares about.

The media misleadingly cites the ‘Preservation League’, more like the Woke Demolition League, as a cultural preservation group. It’s as much into preserving culture as the other groups suing over the renovation.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, along with seven other organizations, filed a lawsuit Monday in a Washington, D.C., federal court seeking injunctive relief prohibiting the Trump administration from starting any construction work at the iconic Potomac River center without completing the required public review and consultation process.

The National Trust is another woke cultural demolition operation which called for obeying BLM and removing statues.

Although Confederate monuments are sometimes designated as historic, and while many were erected more than a century ago, the National Trust supports their removal from our public spaces when they continue to serve the purposes for which many were built—to glorify, promote, and reinforce white supremacy, overtly or implicitly. While some have suggested that removal may result in erasing history, we believe that removal may be necessary to achieve the greater good of ensuring racial justice and equality.

Is it just the Confederate statues that the woke vandals at the National Trust set out to destroy? Of course not. They were coming for all of American history.

“The protest against Francis Scott Key was similarly pointed. Graffiti left behind on the sidewalk in front of the statue accurately labeled Key a “slave owner” and quoted lesser-known lines from Key’s famous poem—from the verse that condemned “hirelings and slaves,” a reference to the company of black soldiers who escaped from bondage in Virginia and Maryland and joined the British army to fight against the nation that had held them captive.”

This last part is completely false and historically illiterate in typical BLM style. The reference was not to black slaves or any kind of literal slaves. Any organization that publishes this kind of lie has zero credibility.

Some called it vandalism; others, nonviolent direct action. As a local historian and preservationist, I see the debate as part of the long, and often contentious, public conversation over the role of these memorials in the city….Whether you treasure, tolerate, or abhor these monuments, we can’t ignore the questions they provoke. How do we decide what people and what ideas should be remembered? If you acknowledge the harm wrought by Columbus’ actions or Key’s slaveholding, what meaning do these monuments hold today? Are monuments to slaveholders and advocates of white supremacy fundamentally incompatible with an inclusive democratic society where black and indigenous lives matter?

The National Trust is a radical leftist organization out to destroy American history. These are not ‘preservationist’ groups. They’re cultural vandals and their opposition to the Kennedy Center renovation is ideological, not historical.

Woke cultural vandals pretending to be preservationists are wolves in sheep’s clothing.
