Russia launched a bombing attack on civilian infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine on Sunday night, which injured at least 12 people.
The attack included multiple guided aerial bombs that struck residential areas, a bus station, and a university medical clinic, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The 12 injured include both men and women between the ages of 24 and 77.
The strikes received swift condemnation from Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, who suggested Russia is not looking to bring an end to the over three-year war.
“No deadlines, no expectations work on them — they do not want to stop the killings. The only thing they are looking for is a way to kill Ukraine,” Zelensky said, before calling for immediate sanctions on Russia from the United States and Europe.
“If Russia does not want to stop the war, then its economy must be stopped,” he added.
The most recent bombing attack on Ukraine comes less than a week before President Donald Trump and Russia President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Alaska in the hopes of reaching a peace deal.
Previous efforts at achieving a ceasefire have failed, with only short truces taking effect before both Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of violating them.
But this will be the first time Trump, who emerged as a mediator between the two sides after reentering the White House, and Putin have met in person since 2019.

Zelensky has remained pessimistic about the bilateral meeting, saying that the war against his country can’t be ended without his involvement.
Recent reporting, however, suggests he may be receiving an invitation to the Friday meeting, though it is unclear if such a move from the White House would derail the negotiating effort given Putin’s reluctance to meet Zelensky face-to-face.
