King Charles III has stripped his younger brother Prince Andrew of his royal titles and evicted him from the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Now to be called Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the ex-royal family member fell from grace due to sexual assault allegations against him and over his connections to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. After the late Epstein-victim Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexual assault, they settled out of court in 2022, though he never admitted guilt. Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
Andrew came under the microscope last week after Giuffre’s memoir was released posthumously on Oct. 21. The memoir marked Giuffre’s first public comments on Andrew since their settlement. She recounted having sex with the disgraced royal family member three separate times, including one occasion in which Epstein and eight other girls who “appeared to be under the age of 18” were also involved, according to the BBC.
Andrew had initially agreed on Oct. 17 to renounce his “Duke of York” title and other royal titles, besides “prince,” saying in a statement that “we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.” Thursday, Charles stripped the final “prince” title.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation,” the Buckingham Palace statement said Thursday.

Charles initiated the process to evict Andrew and remove his titles and honors, according to the Royal Family’s statement.
Andrew will now reside at the family’s private lodgings at the Sandringham estate, and his two daughters will still be able to keep their titles, according to NBC News. His two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, whom he had with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, are 37 and 35, respectively.
