Press on social media from Mamdani wife ‘fair game’: Guy Benson

Washington Examiner columnist Guy Benson said that controversial social media posts from Rama Duwaji, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife, are “a valid news story” to pursue.

A report earlier this month stated that Duwaji had liked various posts celebrating the Hamas terrorist group’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, according to the Jewish Insider. Benson said a subsequent story explored her social media footprint in her teenage years and her 20s, in which she made slurs against homosexuals and used the N-word in one post.

Benson said some people are arguing that the posts she made as a teenager are “ancient history” and that people shouldn’t engage in cancel culture, a sentiment he tends to agree with, but emphasized that her current position makes it a relevant story.

“But also in her teens, she was celebrating terrorism and terrorists in those posts, which she has continued to do in her adult life, and now she’s the first lady of New York City,” Benson said on Fox News’s Fox News Sunday.

“I think this is a valid news story. There seems to be very little media appetite to ask any questions about it, including of her. She’s a grown woman; she can speak for herself if anyone bothers to ask.”

“I just remember the media did tell us that a Supreme Court justice’s wife’s flag was a national story, so this seems like fair game to me,” Benson said.

Benson referred to the viral news story of an upside-down United States flag hanging outside Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s house. Alito said he had no involvement in putting this flag up, and that his wife had hung it in response to a neighbor’s “objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”

On March 6, Mamdani said that his wife is “a private person who has held no formal position” in his administration or campaign.

The Washington Examiner contacted Mamdani’s press office for comment.
