Once Again, Democrat Congressman Jared Moskowitz Votes to Protect Ilhan Omar

[Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”]

In another clear display of hypocrisy, Florida Democrat Congressman Jared Moskowitz has once again sided with Ilhan Omar – one of the most anti-American and anti-Semitic members of Congress. Though Moskowitz brands himself as a “moderate” and a strong supporter of Israel, his voting record tells a very different story. He consistently aligns himself with the far-left, voting nearly in lockstep with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and others in the Squad.

A 2024 congressional comparison report from GovTrack.us showed that Moskowitz voted in line with AOC and Omar more than 80% of the time. For someone who claims to be a centrist, that number raises serious questions. His defense of Omar, in particular, exposes just how far he’s willing to go to protect a member of Congress whose remarks have repeatedly offended Jewish Americans and pro-Israel groups.

Shielding Ilhan Omar – Again

Ilhan Omar has a long history of making inflammatory, anti-Israel, and anti-Semitic remarks. She once claimed that U.S. support for Israel is “all about the Benjamins,” and accused Israel of having “hypnotized the world.” Groups like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned her comments as anti-Semitic. About 9/11, she said, “Some people did something.” Despite any of this, Moskowitz has gone out of his way to protect Omar.

Back in 2023, Moskowitz opposed Republican efforts to remove Omar from the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee. And just recently, he voted to kill a resolution – H.Res. 713 – that would have censured Omar for more offensive remarks, this time about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who had just been senselessly murdered. The resolution would have also removed Omar from the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and the House Budget Committee.

Rather than holding Omar accountable, Moskowitz voted to table the resolution, which effectively buried it. If he had voted “no,” the opposite would have taken place. Once again, Moskowitz chose to protect Omar rather than take a stand against her divisive rhetoric.

A Censure Killed by Political Games

The vote on H.Res. 713 was extremely close: 214 to 213. It failed by just one vote – most notably one cast by Corey Mills, a Republican from Florida. Mills had been expected to support the resolution but ultimately voted with Democrats.

Why? According to reports, Mills was threatened with a “retaliatory censure” if he didn’t vote to table the resolution. This kind of pressure politics speaks volumes about the lengths Democrats went to in order to protect Omar. Even more telling was a quote from Moskowitz after the vote: “Sometimes the strategy works.”

That remark suggests Moskowitz not only knew about the threats to his fellow Floridian (Coincidently?) but approved of them. Instead of condemning political coercion, he celebrated the outcome.

His Pro-Israel Profile is a Lie

Moskowitz often claims to be strongly pro-Israel, and some people who hear it enough believe it. But that claim doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.

After Vice President Kamala Harris made what many called the harshest anti-Israel remarks ever from a sitting VP, Moskowitz didn’t push back – he invited her to his district – Florida Congressional District 23 – which houses one of the largest Jewish populations in the country.

Not five months after the October 7 massacre perpetrated by Hamas – the worst assault on the Jewish community since the Holocaust – Harris had condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza. The backlash from the Jewish community was swift.

However, rather than defend Israel or call out the Vice President, Moskowitz appeared to run damage control. His invitation to Harris seemed designed to smooth things over and deflect criticism from her comments. And keep in mind, he also was very public in his endorsement of Harris for President. These are not the actions of someone truly committed to standing with Israel.

Omar’s Long List of Anti-Semitic Comments

It’s important to remember exactly what Moskowitz is defending.

Ilhan Omar’s comment about political support being “all about the Benjamins” was condemned across the board. The ADL called it “deeply hurtful,” and the Simon Wiesenthal Center called for her removal. Omar claimed that U.S. politicians who support Israel are driven by money, and accused Israel of “hypnotizing the world.”

These are not isolated incidents. This is a pattern of behavior that has made Omar one of the most divisive figures in Congress – particularly when it comes to Israel and the Jewish community.

And yet, Moskowitz has repeatedly stood between her and accountability. In 2023, he tried to stop her removal from the Foreign Affairs Committee. In 2025, he helped block H.Res. 713, which would have censured her and removed her from two more committees.

Conclusion: The Mask Slips

Jared Moskowitz wants voters to believe he’s a moderate. He wants Jewish voters to believe he’s pro-Israel. But the facts say otherwise.

He votes with the Squad over 80% of the time. He defends Ilhan Omar, even when she makes openly anti-Semitic remarks. He invited Kamala Harris to his district right after she publicly attacked Israel. And he praised the political strategy that involved threatening a Republican colleague into flipping his vote.

For voters who care about supporting Israel and fighting anti-Semitism, it’s time to recognize the truth: Jared Moskowitz says one thing, but votes another. His record speaks louder than his rhetoric – and it reveals a congressman who is more interested in protecting his Leftist and Islamist political allies than standing on principle.
