MAGA better run and hide. Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom is mocking Donald Trump on the internet!
That’s a real narrative that Democrats and the dying news media are trying to push this week in what is another naked attempt at giving that corpse of a political party some semblance of life.
CNN: “Gavin Newsom is owning the MAGAs. How far can he take it?”
Politico: “Newsom is not only getting on Republicans’ nerves, but potentially redefining how Democrats function as the opposition party in the age of Trump.”
MSNBC: “Newsom goes on offense with Trump mockery campaign”
The Hill: “Newsom’s Trump act wins raves from Democrats”
In case you haven’t yet been assaulted by Newsom’s social media activity of late, the gist is that he’s recently engaged in that very original form of humor where Democrats imitate the way the president talks and tweets, including the excessive superlatives, idiosyncratic punctuation, and chintzy graphics and videos. And per usual, contrary to the media’s applause, it falls flat because Newsom and his legion of unattractive women supporters are incapable of understanding what makes Trump’s communication methods compelling.
Here’s the secret: Trump is in on the joke. So are his voters. So is anyone who has even the slightest grasp of actual humor. That’s why when he publishes any one of his equally wry and sardonic missives or shares a photo on X of his presidential signature guided by the hand of Christ, it is, for any Democrat reading this, funny. And so long as you’re not consumed by irrational bursts of hatred, you get the joke.
Mockery works when it targets the self-serious and unaware. Mockery doesn’t work when the target is successful humor itself. That’s why imitating Trump is so rarely ever genuinely funny.
Guess what, Democrats. He knows he has an alarming comb-over and a fake tan. He knows he talks like an infomercial. One of his closest allies is the “My Pillow” guy.
But they think pointing any of that out is a devastating blow to his mystique, a cutting attack to his charisma. Talk about self-serious and unaware.
The media will happily feed that delusion though. Democrat wins are few and far between these days, so we’re led to believe Newsom is onto something. Right, and Kamala Harris had a “Brat” summer.
Newsom just watched much of his state literally burn as his administration failed to competently respond to raging wildfires that incinerated more than 16,000 homes and properties. Then, rather than cooperate with the White House on deporting criminal illegal aliens, Newsom’s state resisted, putting his public’s safety at risk, and he gave a speech about saving democracy.
It’s nothing short of embarrassing. But he’s got memes now. He’s mocking Trump like we’ve never seen before. MAGA won’t know what to do.
