Gov. Gavin Newsom’s illegal proposed redistricting gives him party 94% of the congressional seats in the state. It also, by no coincidence, eliminates his top congressional critic.
Rep. Kevin Kiley, whose district includes Death Valley, literally wrote the book on Newsom. ‘Recall Newsom: The Case Against America’s Most Corrupt Governor’. Now, Newsom’s redistricting plan takes District 3 from a ‘Safe Republican’ ranking to a ‘Safe Democrat’ rank.
Rep. Kiley doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence.
Redrawing his district to make it more likely to elect a Democrat, Kiley said Thursday, is “no surprise. Governor Newsom has been targeting me for some time.” The reason for that, Kiley said, is “he is trying to silence and indeed eliminate political opposition.”
There’s a reason voters didn’t want the majority in control of redistricting. Apart from the partisan abuses, giving a political network that much power can easily turn not just against Republicans, but also Democrats, eliminating what little ‘democracy’ there is.
This is about power. And Newsom keeps showing what happens when he gets power.
