Michigan Democrat punished after car wrap prank on Republican colleague –

A feud between colleagues on opposing sides of the aisle in the Michigan House has gotten sticky.

Democratic state Rep. Julie Brixie had her floor-speaking privileges revoked and her parking spot moved after she covered Republican state Rep. Matt Maddock’s car in plastic wrap. Brixie, who was caught on camera, said she did it because he parked in her space.

The penalties will remain in place for the foreseeable future, a Republican official told NBC News.

The car wrapping spectacle occurred on April 17 after Maddock double-parked his car in Brixie’s spot and another. Brixie is seen in a video circling Maddock’s car with plastic wrap while a person appears to record her.

The Democratic lawmaker later announced that a car, a black BMW with vanity plates, had its hood “open, your lights are on and your engine is running. Thank you.”

Brixie told the Detroit News that she was giving his car “an extra layer of protection” and described the incident as a prank.

“My good colleague from the 51st district parked in two spots, including mine, to make sure no one hit his fancy car,” Brixie said. “I Saran wrapped it to give it an extra layer of protection.”

Maddock said on X that Brixie “keeps trying to get my attention and I keep telling her I’m married.”

He said that he didn’t park in her spot as a prank. “I parked in an empty spot. I didn’t realize it’d turn into the highlight of Brixie’s year,” he told the outlet.

Maddock usually drives a truck and is assigned two spots next to Brixie, but he drove his wife’s black BMW to work that day. He told NBC News that she hasn’t apologized.

“She hasn’t apologized, but I wouldn’t expect her to since Democrats get to crime and never say sorry.”

“I can forgive her for pranking my car, but she should really be sorry for her awful votes that have been ruining Michigan,” he added.

Maddock’s wife, Meshawn Maddock, who is also a former Michigan Republican Party co-chairwoman and was charged in the state’s “fake electors” case, slammed Brixie on social media. “Rep Brixie makes a false statement otherwise known as a LIE in the presence of the entire Michigan House, after wrapping my car in plastic wrap like a 13 year old girl,” Meshawn Maddock wrote in a post on X. “Democrats arent just soft on crime, like Brixie, they are crime.”

Brixie, a Lansing-area representative, has served in the state House since 2019. Matt Maddock is a Detroit-metro area representative and has also been serving in the state House since 2019. Republicans recently took control of the state House in Michigan after the 2024 election.
