“Everything you don’t need to know about what happened, but that will distract you from asking certain basic questions”

These days the media likes to throw together roundups of a story titled something like “Everything you need to know about X”. It goes without saying that these stories are instead more like “Everything you don’t need to know about what happened, but that will distract you from asking certain basic questions about what happened.”
Unlike Aubrey Hale, the Covenant school transgender shooter, Robert ‘Robin’ Westman’s manifesto was uploaded and can’t be directly suppressed, and his ugly messages were made public, but the authorities and the media are still doing their best by…
1. Insisting that Westman had no motive
2. Focusing on a recent breakup as the motive
3. Refusing to actually quote his hateful messages, including calls to kill Trump and Jews, instead we get the ambiguous, he “expressed hatred for “almost every group imaginable”. And that, “In short, the shooter appeared to hate all of us. The shooter’s heart was full of hate.” That’s a liberal cliché. The shooter seemed fond of Islam. And he picked a church. That’s not a coincidence.
4. We’re told that “he wanted children to suffer”. Obviously.
5. Little to no mention of his ‘transgender’ identity.
Robert Westman was badly damaged, but he had some basic motives. He hated religion at the Judeo-Christian level and he set out to commit an act that would horrify and traumatize his targets. This is evil. And while we may not talk much about evil, we should, and we should talk about the indoctrination that led him to this path.
