There is a common idiom and admonition, “you can’t see the forest for the trees,” implying that when one is so focused on minute details, one is unable to see the larger context.
Over the last decade, to promote the Democrat Party agenda, the Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes have excelled at fabricating trees to distract their consumers so they won’t see the forest.
The most recent example of this fabrication by “journalists” is the book Original Sin by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson, in which they preposterously claim they had no idea Joe Biden was non compos mentis. I would argue that Tapper and the rest of their Leftmedia cohorts were, to put it kindly, in benign collusion with the Biden/Harris regime to cover up Biden’s degraded mental incapacitation in order to pave a post-2024 Democrat primary path to the presidency for Kamala Harris and Tim “Stolen Valor” Walz. When that fell flat, perhaps because Demo strategists just couldn’t see the forest for the trees, the leftist blame game went into high gear.
Thompson declared this week that the prevailing rationalization for keeping Biden’s mental state a secret was, “When you’re voting for president, you’re voting for the aides around him,” and those aides had the keys to Biden’s autopen. Thompson excused the collusion cover-up, saying that if you “believe that Donald Trump was and is an existential threat to democracy — you can rationalize anything, including sometimes doing undemocratic things.”
Yeah, precisely the Leftmedia rationalization for its censorship and speech suppression antics to successfully defeat Trump in 2020 and attempt to do so again in 2024.
Of course, the real “threat to democracy” was the Biden/Harris regime layup for the Harris/Walz ticket.
The Tapper/Thompson clown show wants America to believe the entire mainstream media could not see what anyone with an IQ equal to their age could clearly see. As leftist comedian Jon Stewart said of their book-selling charade: “Don’t news people have to tell you what they know when they find it out? … [They] are selling you a book about news they should’ve told you was news a year ago for free.”
For the record, I checked, and in columns I have written since Biden became a primary candidate in 2020, I have referenced him as “non compos mentis” (Latin for “of unsound mind,” the loss of memory or ability to reason) 65 times — the first in January 2020, noting, “if Biden makes it beyond Super Tuesday (which I believe he will) despite the fact he is obviously and demonstrably non compos mentis — in a degraded state of dementia…”
With that as a backdrop, I was amused to read this week the commencement address to graduates at Wake Forest University delivered by another Leftmedia Demo apologist, washed-up former “CBS Evening News” anchor Scott Pelley. It was an unhinged diatribe by someone clearly in the latter stages of Trump Derangement Syndrome. I can only assume that a fine university like Wake Forest must have had a last-minute cancellation by someone befitting the commencement honor, and the best organizers could do was promise Pelley free transportation and a meal if he would show up.
You may recall that after CBS declined to renew Pelley’s contract as an anchor and managing editor of “CBS Evening News” in 2017, he insisted it was because he complained about the “hostile work environment](https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/238946/scott-pelley-i-was-fired-for-pointing-out-cbs-news-hostile-work-environment/),” and then he did what all fired media do: he wrote a book — laughably titled, Truth Worth Telling.
But his remarks to the graduating class at Wake were anything but the truth and another example of a “journalist” promoting imaginary trees to hide the Left’s totalitarian forest agenda.
Here are a few notable excerpts from Pelley’s address that were squarely aimed at Donald Trump to foment fear, hate, and division.
“To move forward, we debate, not demonize. We discuss, not destroy. But in this moment — this moment, this morning — our sacred rule of law is under attack. Journalism is under attack. Universities are under attack. Freedom of speech is under attack. An insidious fear is reaching through our schools, our businesses, our homes, and into our private thoughts. The fear to speak. In America?”
If ever there was an institution devoted to violating Rule of Law, controlling public opinion through its media outlets, suppressing free speech, and inducing fear as a key component of its political propaganda, as Pelley just did, it is today’s socialist Democrat Party.
Pelley piled on the jabs at Trump but inadvertently outlined precisely the Democrat strategy for power and control:
Did you hear that phrase in the Declaration? “Pursuit of truth?” Why attack universities? Why attack journalism? Because ignorance works for power.
First, make the truth seekers live in fear. Sue the journalists. For nothing. Then send masked agents to abduct a college student, a writer of her college paper who wrote an editorial supporting Palestinian rights, and send her to a prison in Louisiana and charge her with nothing. Then, move to destroy law firms that stand up for the rights of others.
With that done, power can rewrite history. With grotesque, false narratives, they can make heroes criminals and criminals heroes. And they can change the definition of the words we use to describe reality.
“Diversity” is now described as “illegal.” “Equity” is to be shunned. “Inclusion” is a dirty word. This is an old playbook, my friends. There is nothing new in this. George Orwell — who we met on the street in London — in 1949, he warned of what he called “new speak.” He understood that ignorance works for power.
If Pelley had actually read our Declaration of Independence, he would know that there is no reference to “Pursuit of truth.” In context, the only references to truth is this: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The assertion that these rights are “endowed by our Creator” is completely antithetical to the Left’s agenda, which dictates that all rights and privileges are bestowed by government, not God.
As for Orwell’s dystopian warning, Democrats have been endeavoring to empower that totalitarian socialist state for decades, and never more so than the strides made in eight years by socialist Barack Obama and the last four years by Biden’s statist puppeteers. They have done so under the banner “ignorance works for power,” and their strategy is totally dependent on voter ignorance and Leftmedia collusion.
But America has gotten a good peek under that curtain.
Last week, to CBS’s credit, the president of CBS News and Stations, Wendy McMahon, was forced out because she had overseen the network’s abject bias in reporting about Trump and Republicans. She declared, “It’s become clear the company and I do not agree on the path forward.” Yeah, CBS will remain left of center, but for the time being, it will no longer be a Demo Party propaganda arm.
McMahon followed Bill Owens, executive producer of “60 Minutes,” out the door.
As for Pelley’s occasional appearances on “60 Minutes,” CBS’s flagship of opinion masquerading as journalism, National Review’s Rich Lowery notes, “He’s a mainstay of our most prestige legacy news show that has always maintained a pretense of objectivity.” Rich asks, “Will he and his colleagues now openly admit that 60 Minutes is an opinion show in the format of a news show?”
Of course not.
