Rising outrage by families of 9/11 victims and FBI agents involved in the original World Trade Center bombing investigation, along with attacks from political rivals and questions from the one or two media outlets not in the tank for his campaign, forced Zohran Mamdani to answer why he had campaigned at the Al-Taqwa Mosque, which had been under NYPD surveillance, and tweeted a photo of himself with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted coconspirator in the World Trade Center bombing.
And Mamdani’s response was accusing critics of ‘Islamophobia’.
“The same imam met with Mayor Bloomberg, met with Mayor De Blasio, campaigned alongside Eric Adams, and the only time it became an issue of national attention was when I met with him,” Mamdani told reporters. “That’s because of the fact of my faith.”
There was outrage when Bloomberg met with Wahhaj followed by an apology. And Bloomberg’s claim that he didn’t know who Wahhaj was.
Mamdani is not apologizing and not bothering to pretend he doesn’t know who Wahhaj is. He’s just crying ‘Islamophobia.’
And this is what you’re an Islamophobe if you object to…

“If you get involved in politics, you have to be very careful that your leader is for Allah. You don’t get involved in politics because it’s the American thing to do,” Imam Wahhaj had preached. “You get involved in politics because politics are a weapon to use in the cause of Islam.”
“Wherever you came from, you came to America. And you came for one reason—for one reason only—to establish Allah’s deen,” Wahhaj had told Muslims and predicted that, “democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing, and the only thing that will remain will be Islam.”
“If 6-8 million Muslims unite in America, the country will come to us,” he predicted.
“If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate,” Wahhaj had advised.
There’s no defending this. At least not in any terms other than the explicitly Islamic and Mamdani isn’t ready to do that.
Instead he’s shouting about “Islamophobia” because that’s the standard means of deflecting from Islamic supremacism, violence and hate.
And the violence soon to come.
Mamdani, who had pledged to defund the NYPD, spoke at the mosque which had been under NYPD surveillance because, in the words of a legal filing by New York City, the mosque’s Imam was “named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a plot to bomb a number of New York City landmarks”, “illegal weapons trafficking by members of the mosque’s security team” and that “the assistant Imam had earmarked portions of over $200,000 raised in the mosque to… terrorist organizations.”
Object to it? You’re an Islamophobe.
