Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was heralded for writing a Bible passage on his baseball hat, which he wore during the team’s Pride Night.
Kershaw’s hat, bearing rainbow colors associated with the LGBT flag, had the phrase “Gen. 9:12-16” written on it, referring to the Biblical passage in which God created the rainbow as a symbolic reminder that he would never flood the earth again. The Dodgers faced off against the San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Since the game, Kershaw’s hat has drawn significant attention online.
“Shoutout to Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who wrote Genesis 9:12-16 on his Pride hat to remind everyone that the rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant,” one X user wrote in a post.
Another praised Kershaw for “reminding everyone what the rainbow really represents.”
“Major respect to Clayton Kershaw for this,” an X user also wrote.
The game’s final tally came to the Giants besting the Dodgers with a score of 6-2.
ON FATHER’S DAY, TIME FOR A LITTLE MORE PATRIARCHY
Kershaw has been known to be vocal about his faith in God. In 2023, the Dodgers stirred controversy when the team invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a drag queen charity presenting its performers as nuns, to its annual Pride night. Kershaw voiced opposition to the group’s invitation, saying his disagreement was not related to the LGBT community but rather “a group that was making fun of a religion.”

As opposition from community leaders, teammates, and fans grew, the Dodgers brought back Faith and Family Night for the first time since 2019. In response, Kershaw stated that Jesus Christ is “my hope” in a world that “can get crazy sometimes.” He described the event as the best way to demonstrate what he and some of his other teammates “stand for.”
