The speech is the British monarchy’s first since 1977, when Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, delivered the address. She performed the speech from the throne twice during her 70-year reign.
Charles is in Ottawa on a visit that Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney says will underscore his nation’s sovereignty amid President Donald Trump’s talk of the United States annexing its northern neighbor.
