The longtime wife of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Thursday announced she filed for a divorce on “biblical grounds,” citing “recent discoveries” she has made.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton wrote on X. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
“I move forward with complete confidence that God is always working everything together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose,” she added.
In her petition for divorce, Angela Paxton alleged that her husband committed adultery and noted that they stopped living together in June 2024.
“The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” reads the petition, obtained by the Austin-based radio station KUT News.
Soon after his wife’s announcement, Ken Paxton issued a statement.
“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” he posted on social media.
“I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren,” he added. “I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
Their split comes as Ken Paxton runs against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) for his Senate seat.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee notably weighed in on the divorce, rebuking Ken Paxton amid his 2026 run.
“What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting,” NRSC Communications Director Joanna Rodriguez said in a post reposted by the Senate GOP committee.
“No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time,” she added.
Ken Paxton faced accusations of adultery following his alleged affair with a woman whom he helped get a job with a real estate developer. The alleged mistress, Laura Olson, planned to testify during his impeachment proceedings in 2023 but backed out at the last minute.
The attorney general was acquitted of all 16 impeachment articles he faced for charges of corruption and abuse of office.

Angela Paxton attended her husband’s impeachment trial but did not vote on the outcome as a state senator due to her obvious conflict of interest.
The couple has been married since 1986 and has four adult children and five grandchildren.
