Emmy Griffin: U.S. Surrogacy Exploited by ChiCom Billionaires

Children are not commodities. They should never be reduced to their sex, eye color, or any other arbitrary bodily characteristic as the thing that gives them value and makes them deserving of life. Children also deserve to have a mother and a father.

And yet, the U.S. surrogacy industry has allowed innocent human beings to be sold and denied proper parents based on superficial aspects. What’s worse is that we’ve allowed Chinese billionaires to exploit this industry on a massive scale.

Surrogacy in the U.S., which is loosely regulated, has become little more than a baby factory for communist elites and billionaires in China. According to The Wall Street Journal, wealthy and influential Chinese have used the U.S. and its surrogacy agencies to produce a small army of children.

One man, Xu Bo, is a video game executive who has already bought between 50 and 100 children. These children are automatically U.S. citizens because of the misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment and so-called birthright citizenship. As sinister as this is at a national security level, imagine one of these kids being groomed and primed to take over a U.S. political office in the next 20 or so years with a clear loyalty to China, a nation that plays the long game geopolitically.

Sidebar: The U.S. Supreme Court recently agreed to take up birthright citizenship. The status quo-minded justices should also consider China’s nefarious role in it during deliberations.

On the human dignity side of this atrocity, yes, these innumerable children are being given an education and a nanny to watch over them, but they’re still being denied the ultimate privilege of a mother and a father.

Xu’s surrogate children are preselected by sex. He only wants boys to take over the family business and to create a dynasty of wealth and influence. This eugenicist carryover stems from the one-child-policy days, during which Chinese citizens were only allowed one child per family because their statist government officials fell for the overpopulation myth. In most South Asian countries, boys tend to be favored over girls, and sons are more valued than daughters.

However, male favoritism isn’t true of every Chinese elite. Ironically, another Chinese billionaire, Wang Huiwu, has been practicing eugenics as well, except he’s selecting egg donors from American models and high achievers and then using the IVF process to select only girls. His goal is for them to grow into beautiful women and eventually marry other wealthy and powerful people.

China’s made-in-America baby farm should be a wake-up call for the U.S. government. Members of Congress should be deeply concerned about this birthright citizenship scam, and they need to more specifically define the 14th Amendment. The phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” gives lawmakers some wiggle room to weed out those who would abuse birthright citizenship and the privileges that come with it. In fact, Brianna Lyman of The Federalist points out:

As Sen. Jacob Howard, who drafted that clause, explained, the clause was “simply declamatory of what I regard as the law of the land already.” That law is the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which granted citizenship to persons born in the United States who were “not subject to any foreign power.”

Lyman further observes that Chinese citizens aren’t subject to U.S. jurisdiction. After all, it’s their genetic material that crosses the border, not their physical selves. The surrogates carrying the babies to term are U.S. citizens. It’s all quite diabolical. Modern perversions call for updates to and refinement of existing laws to stop this abuse and close the loopholes.

As for the surrogacy industry, there needs to be oversight and more accountability. Currently, Chinese billionaires can produce hundreds of children by bouncing their cases from jurisdiction to jurisdiction to find a favorable judge to sign off on their parental claims. According to the Journal, this is achieved by “filing the same paperwork in a different jurisdiction — choosing from among the locations of the surrogate, the IVF treatment or the baby’s birth.”

This is a scandal, a human rights violation, and a flaunting of U.S. law. It should be stopped immediately. Children are being victimized, reduced to a piece of property, and sentenced to a life where they are raised to be a tool for their parents’ gain. Every child is made in the image of God and deserve dignity and respect. This form of surrogacy is nothing less than human trafficking.
