Legalized murder and suicide are some of the most perverse ideas that humans have ever contrived. Yet the United Kingdom is adopting both abortion on demand-lite and assisted suicide.
On the abortion front, Parliament — with 379 in favor and 137 against — passed an abortion law June 17 that decriminalizes late-term abortions for mothers while continuing to prosecute their physicians. Currently in the UK, women are allowed to abort their preborn babies up to 24 weeks of gestation. For perspective, a 24-week-old in the womb is the size of an eggplant, and the mother has been able to feel that baby kick for almost two months. A baby this age can survive if born prematurely, which is why, up until this point, abortion after 24 weeks was illegal. However, after Parliament’s monstrous vote, mothers will be allowed to terminate pregnancies past that point for any reason and by any means without repercussions.
For example, a mother can lie to obtain abortion pills and then terminate a preborn baby at 37 weeks gestation — i.e., three weeks from the due date — which has happened in the UK. This is virtually infanticide. It is deplorable, deprived, and wicked.
Sadly, this abomination of a law wasn’t the only new victory for the Left’s death cultists. By a narrow vote — 313-291 — Parliament also voted on June 20 to make assisted suicide legal. “The bill,” according to National Review’s Abigail Anthony, “allows individuals to undergo medically assisted suicide if they are over age 18, live in England or Wales, have been registered with a general practitioner for at least 12 months, are expected to die within six months, have made two separate declarations affirming a wish to die, have been deemed eligible by two independent doctors, and have the ‘mental capacity’ to make the decision without being ‘coerced’ or ‘pressured.’”
Assisted suicide is legal in other European countries, as well as Canada, where we have seen firsthand the slippery slope. There, you can kill yourself if you’re too poor or too mentally ill, not just if you’re old or terminally sick. It’s not a “good death,” as euthanasia is translated to mean. It’s legally sanctioned eugenics in the name of “mercy.”
New York is also on the verge of making assisted suicide legal. Governor Kathy Hochul has yet to sign a bill recently passed by the legislature that legalizes it, but regardless of whether she signs off on it, the bill will become law unless she vetoes it.
The United Kingdom is often viewed as a canary in the coal mine for the U.S. Like with transgenderism and other leftist radicalism, the UK is about 10 years ahead of us. If steps are not taken immediately to halt for good the death cult here, in a decade or less, the United States will follow suit with abortion on demand and assisted suicide.
It’s been a sad week for residents of the UK. Whether they are cognizant enough to realize it, their government just made a bold statement that their lives don’t matter if they are inconvenient. “Once a nation ceases to respect the source of human dignity,” warns The Federalist’s Elle Purnell, “it will soon stop respecting the rights that dignity demands. If the United Kingdom won’t recognize the sanctity of the lives of its most vulnerable, it can no longer be expected to recognize any other liberties.”
The UK had already made it clear that those liberties were on shaky ground. This was exemplified by the lack of action with regard to the safety of young white boys and girls who were raped by Pakistani grooming gangs. It’s exemplified by the fact that you can be arrested if someone doesn’t like your social media post. And now, it’s being exemplified via the legalized killing of vulnerable children in the womb and the terminally ill.
What’s next on this slippery slope? Does anyone in the UK have the courage to start trying to turn the tide?
