Douglas Andrews: Real Commie Meets Fake ‘Fascist’

The defining moment of Zohran Mamdani’s Friday meeting with Donald Trump was plain to see. It was when the tough-talking commie was asked by a reporter if he still stood by his tiresome campaign claims that the American president is a fascist.

For one, Mamdani and his fellow leftists don’t even know what a fascist is. But we do, and wethinks we see an awful lot of projection here.

For two, Mamdani won the New York City mayor’s race by preaching about affordability (read: “affordability”) and by fulminating about the fascist-in-chief in the White House. And during his victory speech, he sneeringly said to the American president, “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!”

Surely, then, when asked about it directly, Florida’s Realtor of the Year would stand up to the vile Trump and double down on his fascist charge, right? Surely, he’d fulfill the hopes and dreams of his Trump-deranged legions by speaking truth to power right there in the Oval Office, right?

Wrong. And don’t call him Shirley, even if he can’t knock out a single sorry rep at 135.

“Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?” came the question from Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich — a question calling for a simple yes-or-no answer, a question to which Mamdani manfully replied, “I’ve spoken about the…”

Trump immediately stepped in to rescue Mamdani: “That’s okay, you can just say, ‘Yes,’” said Trump with a smile and a dismissive wave of the hand and a couple of pats on Mamdani’s arm. “Go ahead. It’s easier — it’s easier than explaining it. I don’t mind.”

This was pure Trump, who, despite his well-earned reputation as a political street-fighter, is at his essence a fine host and a gentleman. He recognized immediately that the question put his guest in a tough spot, and he defused it by making light of it. The moment had the makings of a great ambush: Fox News reporter, tough question, star-struck visitor to the Oval Office. And a lesser man — yours truly, for example — would’ve made Mamdani squirm, especially after all the vile things he’d been saying. But not Trump. He was magnanimous.

This isn’t meant to make light of this dirty little demagogue’s name-calling because it’s deadly serious stuff. Were it not, Charlie Kirk’s leftist assassin wouldn’t have etched “Hey fascist! Catch!” into one of his bullet casings.

The Democrat Party’s behavior, generally, has become diseased by coarseness, crudity, and incivility as it tries to one-up Donald Trump’s straight talk and toughness. It won’t work, though, because whereas Trump is an utterly authentic throat-puncher, the Democrats to a person are not. So when an opportunistic insurrectionist like Senator Elissa Slotkin tells her colleagues to “get a little more alpha energy,” and when milquetoasts like Chuck Schumer and Chris Murphy are dropping F-bombs in X posts, and when elite prep-schoolers like Jasmine Crockett are talkin’ like they’s from the ‘hood, you know that in addition to being unmoored, even unhinged, these people are also trying to be something they’re not: tough. Think about it: The toughest guys in the Democrat Party are the women.

Afterward, Trump was even more generous: “I feel very confident that he can do a good job,” said Trump about his guest. “I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually. … We agree on a lot more than I would have thought.”

So this brief snapshot in time spoke volumes about Trump, but it also spoke volumes about that simpering little two-faced commie Mamdani.

Over the weekend, on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mamdani told moderator Kristen Welker that he still thinks Trump is a fascist. “After President Trump said that, I said, ‘Yes,’” Mamdani insisted, adding, “That’s something I’ve said in the past, and I say today. And I think what I appreciated about the conversation that I had with the president was that we were not shy about the places of disagreement, about the politics that has brought us to this moment, and we also wanted to focus on what it could look like to deliver on a shared analysis of an affordability crisis for New Yorkers.”

Trump throws the guy a lifeline and signals a willingness to help beleaguered New York City, and this little weakling stabs him in the back.

That’s all you need to know about commies. And Trump-deranged Democrats.
