On Tuesday night, CNN’s NewsNight With Abby Phillip had a segment with panelists who debated over various topics, including President Trump’s handling of immigration. The conversations led to the fired MSNBC host Tiffany Cross’s nonsensical rambling of radical leftist talking points.
Cross hijacked the conversation to deliver this:
I don’t think it’s even an effort to do that, but I just want to remind the viewers, his wife, herself a former nude model, got the Einstein Visa to come over here. Completely usurped the immigration system, what was her unique talent? I wonder, that she was able to get that? Furthermore, he’s increasing these deportations because he’s trying to be competitive with his predecessor, who, I’m ashamed to say, Obama. Who they called ‘deporter-in-chief’ because he deported so many people. 430-something-thousand, I believe, was the height of the year 2013.
The “Einstein Visa,” actually called the EB-1, is typically a reserved citizenship visa for immigrants who are highly acclaimed in their fields. Most people, including Cross, appear to assume this meant strictly people like Pulitzer prize winners and top scientists.
This narrative isn’t necessarily true. According to Susan McFadden, a specialist US visa lawyer, in 2018, “You do not have to be a Nobel prize winner to get the extraordinary ability visa. I’ve gotten EB-1 visas for people you’ve never heard of and never will.” Gaining access to an EB-1 is typically about defining a field and proving the client was outstanding in said field, for Melania, significant experience in modeling throughout Europe was deemed enough.
On top of this, Nita Upadhye, a U.S. immigration specialist, said that “It’s about getting testimonials from someone who is extraordinary in their own right and has some name recognition, but who can also attest to specific achievements of the applicant.” Meaning Melania most likely got recommendations from known modeling agencies, furthering the strength of her application. Lastly, data showed that EB-1’s have an approval rating of around 60-70 percent.
For Cross to use the word “usurped” when defining Melania’s ability to enter the country is ignorant. It could be the case that Cross didn’t know what the word meant, but the definition is taking a position or place of something either illegally or by force. Does Melania obtaining a legal citizenship through a visa and eventual green card constitute calling her an illegal immigrant?
Cross ended her misinformation injection with more vitriol:

Really? What reporting, you may ask? It appears Cross was referring to an NPR article. NPR, which has 87 Democrat editors to 0 Republican editors.
