Canada: Federal ‘Islamophobia’ Watchdog Hid $80,000 Pro-Palestine Grant From Taxpayers

Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to StandHERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”

Canada’s ‘Islamophobia’ czar is back in the news again, this time for explicitly forwarding the Palestinian agenda on the taxpayer dime. “Islamophobia advisor hid $80k pro-Palestine grant from taxpayers,” by Dave Naylor, Western Standard, December 17, 2025:

A federal cabinet advisor quietly authorized an $80,000 taxpayer-funded grant for pro-Palestine research while publicly denying any such funding, newly released Access to Information records show.

Blacklock’s Reporter says documents reveal Amira Elghawaby, the federal government’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia, approved the payment to York University’s Islamophobia Research Hub to produce research aimed at countering what it described as “disinformation” by MPs, senators, and the media.

Elghawaby’s office repeatedly denied the funding when questioned at the time.

“Thank you again for this impeccable work,” Elghawaby wrote to researchers at the York University hub in a message disclosed through records. ….The study, titled Documenting The Palestine Exception: An Overview Of Trends In Islamophobia, Anti-Palestinian Racism and Anti-Arab Racism In Canada In The Aftermath Of October 7, 2023, was unveiled at an August 6 Parliament Hill news conference….

The Suburban reported two months ago:

Through an access to information request, it was revealed that she encouraged federal bureaucrats to advocate pro-Palestinian positions and to criticize Jewish organizations including B’nai Brith.

The Suburban went on to reveal that Elghawaby, whose salary is $191,300, “maintained regular contact with the Muslim Federal Employees Network and lobbied on its behalf with senior federal officials.”

The Blacklocks Reporter stated that “Elghawaby’s Office of the Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia had flatly denied the confidential funding at taxpayers’ expense.”

Last March, Canada published a 60-page “Guide to Understanding and Combatting Islamophobia,” which Amira Elghawaby wrote. The National Post stated of this propaganda report, that was subsequently dropped by the government:

The state’s job isn’t to manage the public perception of any one religious group. At least, that’s what is generally believed in Canada. But on Monday, that’s what the government did with the publication of “The Canadian Guide to Understanding and Combatting Islamophobia.”

The 60-page report, the latest creation of Amira Elghawaby, the federal appointee tasked with promoting Islam in Canada under the guise of “combatting Islamophobia,” is not just a guide to understanding a particular type of discrimination…. Altogether, it’s the kind of document a secular government has no business producing, going far beyond promoting long-held traditions of pluralism and religious freedom…

Elghawaby’s report castigated the West, historically and at present, and condemned it also for its treatment of Muslims (in the view of Elghawaby).

Her report deemed it “racist” to criticize anti-Israel activists who support Hamas, and according to the National Post, the guide also defined “both ‘sharia’ and ‘jihad’ as benign terms that are misrepresented by Westerners.” It endorsed “the idea of ‘anti-Palestinian racism,’ an activist term with such a broad definition that it technically deems any criticism of Palestinians or ‘their narratives’ to be racist. ‘Public discourse often unfairly associates Palestinian and Muslim identities with terrorism,’ reads the guide.”

It’s obvious how devious Elghawaby’s guide was, and the government dropped it likely because its insidious content was publicized. And now, Elghawaby is exposed for hiding an $80,000 “pro-Palestine” grant from taxpayers, just as taxpayers continue to pay her $191,300. So what exactly are taxpayers paying for?

Elghawaby was former communications director for the National Council of Canadian Muslims, which changed its name from CAIR-CAN. CAIR-CAN was an offshoot of CAIR which was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism funding trial in the history of America. It was specifically listed under the categorymembers of the US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee and/or its organizations.

Last month, Texas Greg Governor Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

As another National Post article asks: “Did no one vet anti-Islamophobia rep’s past?” Now that her past and current activities on the Canadian dime keep getting exposed, what will be the outcome?
