When a Coldplay concert busted two cheating spouses, the internet united under one unexpected theme — the sanctity of marriage.
Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s head of HR, Kristin Cabot, embraced on the “kiss cam” in a viral video from the July 16 Coldplay concert. When they realized the whole stadium could see them, Byron ducked to the ground and Cabot hid her face.
The video has circulated across every social media platform, bringing millions of views, with more than 122 million views on TikTok alone. The comment sections are full of people who agree: That’s what you get when you cheat.
One X user posted, in reference to the incident, “families may have been divided but the world is united.”
A popular Instagram account with 7.5 million followers called “dudewithasign” posted, “If you’re having a bad day, at least you didn’t get caught cheating at a Coldplay concert.”
Matt Walsh commented on the incident, saying on X, “Adultery is a morally abominable act that causes direct and immeasurable harm to your spouse and children. It is rooted in depraved indifference to the people who are supposed [to] be closest to you.”
Most of the internet seems to agree that holding these cheaters accountable is fair, and even good, because what they did was wrong.
And yet the reaction is somewhat surprising despite the fact that for years, the left has tried to diminish the sanctity of marriage. Legalizing same-sex marriage, embracing transgender ideology, and normalizing hookup culture are a few examples. They’ve tried to rewrite reality to make people believe they will be happy if they “follow their heart” and “live their truth.” Even if it means leaving your spouse because of a realization of your “new” gender identity or sexual orientation.
Same-sex Marriage
After Democrats paved the way to the legalization of same-sex marriage, marriage could no longer be defined as a covenant between a man and a woman. The government didn’t just expand legal benefits — it fundamentally altered the meaning of marriage. It replaced a sacred, complementary union with a gender-neutral contract. This was a major blow to the sanctity of marriage.
In 2025, People Magazine told the story of a wife who left her husband, the father of her children, so she could live a lesbian lifestyle, and the woman was applauded by the left.
CNN published a 2019 opinion piece titled “I was married with two kids and realized I’m gay.” The writer said she started to have thoughts about wanting to be with a woman while she was “faithfully” married to her husband. There is even a section titled “Living my truth.” But again, this is fine with the left.
Transgender Ideology
At its core, marriage has traditionally been rooted in the natural, biological complementarity of male and female, a design that reflects the union of two sexes. Yet today, leftist activists and institutions insist that gender is not a biological reality but a subjective identity.
This belief not only confuses the foundational terms of “husband” and “wife,” but it also makes the entire concept of a gendered union seem arbitrary. By prioritizing self-expression over enduring truth, the left has chipped away at the very meaning of marriage, replacing it with a version that cannot carry the same purpose.
AP News published an article in 2024 titled, “Can a marriage survive gender transition? Yes, and even thrive.” There are countless examples of this propaganda against lifelong natural marriage across reality TV and corporate media, but the backlash against the Astronomer CEO shows people instinctively know that the media’s preferred narratives on sex and marriage are wrong, even if we have been culturally propagandized to believe the opposite.
Hookup Culture
Under the banner of “sexual liberation” and “bodily autonomy,” progressive voices have promoted the idea that personal freedom means unrestrained sexual expression, divorced from any moral or relational context. This ideology teaches that sex is simply a recreational activity, not something sacred or reserved for marriage.
When young people are taught that marriage is just one option among many, and that long-term commitment is unnecessary for fulfillment or family, the institution inevitably suffers.
By detaching sex from responsibility and love from duty, the left has promoted a culture of momentary pleasure over enduring purpose, eroding the very foundation that stable marriages and families are built upon.
The Coldplay incident didn’t fit a certain mold of a story the left likes to tell, which is why everyone on the internet could agree.
Leaving your spouse for a homosexual lifestyle is rooted in lust, like cheating on a spouse with a coworker, but the left only takes issue with the latter. No matter what the gatekeepers may say, people inherently know cheating is wrong. The viral Coldplay concert moment is a reminder the left can never erase basic human truths: That marriage is between a man and a woman, and that sex is meant for marriage.
