Most voters believe that America’s “broken” immigration system favors illegal immigrants over those who entered the “right way,” a finding that should keep support high for President Donald Trump’s bid to boot illegal immigrants via deportation or a new $1,000 incentive to leave.
That year, Obama said, “Today, our immigration system is broken, and everybody knows it. Families who enter our country the right way and play by the rules watch others flout the rules.”
Today, only 24% disagree, according to the survey of likely voters shared with Secrets Monday.
In its latest survey, Rasmussen tested the 11-year-old Obama phrase and found the public’s view similar to what it was then. Democrats still agree with the sentiment expressed by Obama, at 54%.
Plus, said the polling outfit, more voters than not believe the immigration system provides too much “protection” for illegal immigrants.

Under Obama, illegal immigrants were deported in high numbers, a practice former President Joe Biden largely abandoned. Once back in office, Trump essentially closed the border to immigrants trying to cross it illegally.
Just today, Trump’s Homeland Security Department proposed giving $1,000 to those who self-deport.
