ABC Skips Comey’s Seashell Post Allegedly Threatening a Trump Assassination

Late Thursday, former FBI Director and cringe, lefty D.C. Boomer James Comey posted and deleted seashells shaped into “8647” while walking on the beach that he claimed to have found interesting while not aware until later it translated to call for President Donald Trump’s assassination.

But on the Friday morning network news shows, ABC’s Good Morning America was nowhere to be seen and saw no reason to cover this act of dangerous political rhetoric.

Instead, they spent nearly ten minutes (9:37) treating Bill Belichick to a softball-filled interview that barely touched on the ongoing soap opera that is his relationship with girlfriend Jordon Hudson and just over four minutes (4:02) celebrating the 70th anniversary of Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

NBC’s Today only tacked 48 seconds onto the end of a segment about President Trump’s trip to the Middle East.

“Garrett, while we have you here, there is this other story that we’ve been watching. Former FBI director James Comey — he’s now under investigation over a social media post. What — what more can you tell us about that one,” co-host Craig Melvin gingerly asked in speaking to senior White House correspondent Garrett Haake.

Haake briefly explained the facts: “Yeah. That’s right, Craig. In a now deleted Instagram post, Comey, who you’ll remember was fired by Trump in 2017 and later became a prominent Trump critic, posted a picture of shells on the beach forming the numbers 8647. 86 can be slang for remove, 47 a common reference to Trump, the 47th President.”

This was when things got ridiculous as Haake huffed that “[s]ome of the President’s supporters took it to mean that Comey was calling for President Trump’s assassination.”

Oh, “some” people “took” Comey’s post “to mean” he meant ill will towards Trump?

Pants on fire, Garrett.

But, wait, there was more. Here was how he wrapped: “Comey, after taking the post down, said he didn’t understand what the numbers meant and that he doesn’t support violence against anyone. Meanwhile, the Secret Service says they take posts like this seriously and they’re investigating.”

Isn’t it nice being a D.C. liberal in which your kindred spirits in the so-called news business take you at your word?

CBS Mornings ignored it, so they punted it to their news-heavy third hour, CBS Mornings Plus (which only airs outside of their streaming platform on owned-and-operated stations in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit and Miami).

There, Comey’s nonsense both received more time in 76 seconds of discussion and a whole lot more skepticism.

Co-host Adriana Diaz delivered the basics:

Former FBI director James Comey — have you guys heard about this — he’s under investigation for a social media post that some claimed was a threat against President Trump. Comey posted and deleted a photo showing seashells shaped to read 8647. He captioned the post — the post: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.” 86-ing, as you might know, is a common term used to get rid of something, so the Homeland Security secretary and other administration officials accused Comey of calling for the 47th President’s assassination through this post. The DHS and Secret Service are now investigating. Comey said he assumed the shells were a political message, but didn’t realize the numbers are sometimes associated with violence. He says he opposes violence of any kind.

Co-host Tony Dokoupil was not having any of Comey’s nonsense feigning ignorance: “It’s a — it’s a weird thing for him to get caught up in. I don’t know what he was thinking. It seems pretty dumb and he’s prior service. I think he was a Marine., so the term 86 is military code.”

Diaz wondered if it was “official military code,” but Dokoupil countered: “I don’t know if it’s official, but it has been a common usage. So, I don’t know.”

She continued to defend Comey, but admitted at the end he shouldn’t have brought on this hubbub: “But I don’t know if it means to kill or just to kind of get rid of something like 86 this coffee, I guess. I don’t really know. Surprising that he would even post it.”

“I don’t know. Was it worth it, Mr. Comey? Was it worth it? It’s not, like, great content,” Dokoupil concluded.

Our friend Jerry Dunleavy at Just the News also had a theory about why Comey was churning up controversy:
