When someone cries “no evidence,” it’s probably because they can’t handle the evidence. CNN host Abby Phillip repeatedly argued over the weekend that there was no weaponization under Democrats because you can’t identify a “Big Puppeteer” who has directed the entire conspiracy against Trump or Tea Party conservatives.
First we saw Phillip breaking out the scandal denial while hosting on Saturday morning’s Table for Five show. GOP analyst Kristin Davison triggered Phillip by noting the Fact that Biden and Obama weaponized government against their opponents.
Phillip said she hears this from conservatives, “but there has yet to date been no proof that any of that was directed by the president of the United States. If I’m if I’m wrong, where is the proof? Because I have yet to see any proof of Joe Biden directing that.”
Conservatives point to The New York Times on April 2, 2022, reporting “Biden confided to his inner circle that he believed former President Donald J. Trump was a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted, according to two people familiar with his comments. And while the president has never communicated his frustrations directly to Mr. Garland, he has said privately that he wanted Mr. Garland to act less like a ponderous judge and more like a prosecutor who is willing to take decisive action over the events of Jan. 6.”
On Friday’s Newsnight, Phillip threw the same card on all of the anti-Trump lawfare attempts under Biden. It’s not real if it doesn’t have one puppetmaster: “This idea that this was a weaponized — these were all these different prosecutions and all these different jurisdictions were not all directed from one place. There’s absolutely no evidence of that. You guys can tell me what evidence you have of that, but I’ve never seen it, and I’ve never heard anybody actually voice it.”
When it came to Obama weaponizing the IRS, Phillip insisted you can’t prove Obama did it. When it came to Biden’s Justice Department and Jack Smith and January 6, you can’t prove that Biden was behind it all. These Democrat scandals happened. They are real, even if kooky comedian Pete Dominick tried to yell that everything Republican analyst Kristin Davison said was “made up….everything you just said was made up!” That’s false, a factual faceplant. But the “official” CNN transcript on CNN.com left out Dominick’s “it’s all made up” argument entirely.
You can see why conservatives would say “why go on CNN?” But the Scandal Denier routine is instructive. You have to enjoy seeing them wince at an opposing view (and undeniable facts) and believe that someone who’s tuned in to CNN realizes all the liberal denial is lame. CNN and the rest have been so heavily invested in trying to destroy Trump through scandals, and yet all of this talk only seems to make him stronger. It must drive them mad.
