Gary Bauer: America Betrayed — How China Dominated Rare Earth Markets

The Wall Street Journal has a disturbing report on how communist China came to dominate the market for essential rare earth minerals. The Journal writes, “Its dominance was decades in the making,” going all the way back to the 1990s.
 
Think about who was president over that time. George H.W. Bush for one term. Bill Clinton for two terms. George W. Bush for two terms. I remind you again that “W” was furious with me because I went after him in the 2000 presidential primaries for being committed to giving communist China most favorable nation trade status. Bush was followed by Barack Obama for two terms.
 
Then, we had Donald Trump’s first term, one term of Joe Biden, and another Trump term. President Trump started to address trade issues with communist China, including rare earths, in his first term. But Biden went in the wrong direction, and now Trump is trying to fix this crisis.
 
Think about all those presidents—Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama, and Biden. Did anyone brief them on the importance of these minerals? Did anyone from the defense industry or the Pentagon say, “We need an emergency meeting at the White House because the communist Chinese could cripple us”?
 
It doesn’t appear as though anyone did. And if those briefings and meetings did happen, no one listened. Over the years, our economy and our military became dependent on communist China.
 
This is a national scandal! We were betrayed by globalists. And people wonder why so many Americans have lost confidence in the government.
 
Don’t forget this was also coupled with massive American job losses. But the jobs that were lost belonged to people who don’t mingle with lobbyists and DC elites. They were just average Joes who don’t hang out at the country club.
 
Donald Trump is doing everything he can to secure America’s access to these critically important minerals. He is reshaping domestic policy, making national investments in American mining companies, and making deals with friendly nations.
 
We should all pray he succeeds.
