Sen. Ted Cruz is the latest member of the “Jack Smith Tried to Seize My Phone Records” club. Cruz is calling this “the Biden administration’s 21st-century digital Watergate”, it’s a nice applause line, but we went well beyond Watergate around the time the Obama admin launched its Russiagate fishing expedition.
We’re so far beyond Watergate that it’s like invoking a street scuffle when talking about the Astor Place Riot.
A key difference between Russiagate and the J6 investigation, and it’s a really crucial difference that not enough people are recognizing, is that under Obama, spying on political opponents was done under the guise of spying on foreign nationals, e.g. Israel, Russia, while the Biden stuff was justified as upholding democracy.
In short, spying on foreign enemies was no longer the pretext, it was now about spying on domestic enemies with a side order of martial law, and operationalizing the national security state to go after opponents.
Biden’s mental state may have been part curse and part blessing, but the Jack Smith ‘investigation’ shows what someone more focused and ruthless might have done.
In short, if you think the Biden years were bad, imagine if Hillary Clinton had run in 2020, the J6 riots had happened then, and well we’d probably all be in prison by now.
Jack Smith, a Hillary errand boy, did try his hardest. He tried to get to the phone records of 9 GOP senators.
That may not be all.
If you want a real nightmare, imagine that Hillary had been in the White House, Eric Holder had been AG (instead of Merrick Garland, whom Biden berated for not going after Trump hard enough) and Jack Smith had the backing of Hillary and Holder to essentially treat the Republicans like a criminal organization.
And next time, it might really happen. Unless this machine is smashed to pieces.
