You know that a public statement from a Democrat elected official is bad when the media steps in and tries to firefight potential public backlash. Such is the case with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who gets five-alarm firefighting from NBC after saying that “every day gets worse for us.”

NOBLES: Meanwhile, Republicans seizing on comments made by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in an interview about the shutdown that quote, “every day gets better for us.” No. It’s actually getting worse for them.
DONALD TRUMP: Chuck Schumer proclaimed this morning every day gets better for them. No, it’s actually getting worse for them.
NOBLES: Schumer explaining that he meant his party’s message was breaking through.
CHUCK SCHUMER: Every day that Republicans refuse to negotiate to end this shutdown, the worse it gets for Americans.
The funniest part of it all is that THIS, Ryan Nobles’ rehab of Schumer’s remarks, was the ONLY mention garnered by these statements on the legacy evening news. CBS and ABC whiffed altogether, which tells you that this is (D)ifferent.
Imagine the outrage had this sequence happened with a Republican. You would not see a legacy outlet try to establish a counterargument or otherwise sanitize the remarks. The pouncing and “seizing” would be on the left, with adverse contextualizing and framing remarks coming from the media.
Nobles closed out his shutdown report with his Schumer rehab: today’s talking points hinged on military families having to do without pay during the shutdown. That focus was directed on Speaker Mike Johnson, whose body passed a continuing resolution, as opposed to Schumer who obstructs the CR.
The entire exercise is further proof evident of the media’s Democrat-friendly framing of the shutdown.

TOM LLAMAS: In Washington, the government is no closer to reopening and that’s worrying many military families, who are concerned about making ends meet if they miss a paycheck next week. I asked Speaker Mike Johnson about his message to those families. Here’s Ryan nobles.
RYAN NOBLES: Tonight, on day nine of the federal government shutdown, military members are six days away from going without their first paycheck.
COURTNEY WITUCKI: Actually it’s pretty terrifying.
NOBLES: It is a problem that Courtney Witucki, a military spouse with three kids, is about to face head-on.
WITUCKI: If they came down our street and spoke to every single one of us, like, they would see how much people are going to truly struggle.
NOBLES: Members have introduced a separate bill to make sure the military gets paid.
C-SPAN HOST: Samantha, you’re on with Speaker Johnson.
NOBLES: It was a plea made directly to Speaker Mike Johnson today, by a Republican military mom who said in the call to C-SPAN, she won’t be able to afford medicine for her kids.
MILITARY MOM: I’m begging you to pass this legislation. My kids could die.
NOBLES: Pressed by Tom, the Speaker is insistent passing a full spending bill is a better option.
LLAMAS Why wouldn’t you at least try to get a standalone bill together?
MIKE JOHNSON: Well, I’d tell them we’re worried about their not getting paid as well and that’s why we already voted to pay the troops.
NOBLES: He is not alone.
Should you do something separate to make sure they get a paycheck in a couple days here?
LINDSEY GRAHAM: What about the FBI? What about the CIA? What about the Secret Service?
