Douglas Andrews: Dearborn and the American Future

Here’s a “fun” fact: Only a single American citizen is mentioned by name in Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler’s massive and rambling political manifesto. Just one.

That American? Henry Ford. It’s right there on page 639:

While England sweats to maintain her position in this world, the Jew organizes his attack for its conquest. … But it is not only the Old World that he holds thus enmeshed; the same fate menaces the New. It is the Jews who govern the stock exchange forces of the American union. Every year makes them more and more the controlling masters of the producers in a nation of one hundred and twenty millions; only a single great man, Ford, to their fury, maintains his independence.

I mention Hitler’s fascination with Ford not to open old wounds but to shed new light on why it is that Ford’s birthplace and lifelong home, Dearborn, has been overrun by Muslims.

Dearborn, whose population is around 110,000 and which forms the western border of Detroit, is now somewhere north of 55% Arab-American and counting, which is a 7% increase from the city’s 2019 census data. It is represented in Congress by none other than Rashida Tlaib, Madam River-to-the-Sea herself, who flies the Palestinian flag outside her Capitol Hill office, spews Jew-hating/pro-Hamas propaganda, and has employed Hamas-linked activists on her political campaigns, including one who did eight months for his ties to that murderous Foreign Terrorist Organization, as designated so by Bill Clinton back in 1997.

Is it merely a coincidence, then, that the greatest concentration of Arab-ancestral people outside the Middle East is located in the very home of America’s most consequential industrialist, whose Jew-hatred is a matter of public record? Perhaps.

Regardless, though, Dearborn has become largely unrecognizable as an American city, as this recent Arbaeen parade will attest.

Moreover, Dearborn’s political leadership has become largely unrecognizable, as a recent exchange between its mayor and one of its Christian citizens will attest. As Fox News recently reported:

At a Dearborn City Council meeting … Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud told local resident Edward “Ted” Barham, a Christian, that he was “not welcome” in the city after Barham raised concerns about new street signs honoring Arab American News publisher Osama Siblani.

FOX 2 Detroit reported that the signs honoring Siblani were placed at intersections on Warren Avenue by Wayne County, not the City of Dearborn. But the mayor escalated the debate, telling Barham, “Although you live here, you are not welcome here.”

Who is Osama Siblani? He’s an anti-Israel activist and the founder of The Arab American News, the largest paper of its kind in the nation. As The Washington Free Beacon reports, “Siblani’s radical track record in Dearborn — a heavily Muslim community known for being a hotbed of anti-Israel sentiment — includes numerous public appearances in which he praised Palestinian jihadi groups as ‘heroes,’ lauded the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, and threatened to send Israeli Jews ‘back to Poland.’”

It doesn’t take a scholar to figure out that the “back to Poland” reference is about Auschwitz and the Holocaust.

Hard to believe, huh? But Hammoud wasn’t finished with Barham: “The best suggestion I have for you,” he said, “is to not drive on Warren Avenue or to close your eyes while you’re doing it. His name is up there, and I spoke at a ceremony celebrating it because he’s done a lot for this community.” Hammoud then called Barham “a bigot,” “a racist,” and “an Islamophobe.”

And then this: “Although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of this city.”

Back in 2006, the great Mark Steyn warned us that this would happen. His brave book, America Alone, projected that Muslims would one day conquer the West not with arms but with birth rate. Indeed, an American Muslim will, once in a while, give up the game and explain, matter-of-factly, that the Christian West isn’t keeping up with the Muslim world when it comes to procreation. And then, eventually, unless things change, it becomes a matter of grim and simple math.

Dearborn is only one city in a vast American expanse, but it bears watching. Because unless we forcefully confront the anti-American rhetoric and the unwelcoming attitude of this city’s political leader, his intolerance may one day be coming to a neighborhood near you.
