The Great Replacement may be regarded as a white supremacist conspiracy theory regarding the concerted effort by left-wing elites to enact racial policies to replace majority white populations. There is, ironically, an actual ideological replacement occurring generationally in both the U.S. and Europe.
It has been widely reported that Gen Z is significantly more conservative politically speaking than are prior generations.
We have also noted that the Democrat Party brand is mud. Even before Donald Trump won the 2024 election, Democrats had seen their historic advantage over Republicans when it comes to voter registration shrink considerably, largely thanks to young people.
And much of this is due to the Democrats’ radical move to the hard Left and the embrace of fringe ideologies like “transgenderism” and the woke Marxism of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Furthermore, the Democrats’ embrace of radical feminism that eschews traditional masculinity as “toxic” has only chased men, and especially younger men, away from the party in droves.
However, there is another interesting factor that is directly a result of the Democrats’ long and increasing embrace of radical leftist ideology that has undercut the party’s natural growth.
That factor is the birthrate of leftists or progressives versus that of conservatives.
A 2018 survey from the U.S. General Social Survey and the World Values Survey asked people about their political views, categorized as either left or right, and the number of children they had. For years, similar surveys indicated little difference between people’s political views and the number of children they had, although conservatives tended to have slightly more children than progressives.
However, the parity regarding family size has shifted dramatically recently. Between the early 2000s and 2020, the number of children per family among conservatives decreased slightly, from 2.7 in the 1970s to 2.4 today. Meanwhile, for progressives, the number of children per family has decreased significantly, from approximately 2.1 in the mid-1990s to 1.6 by 2020.
According to John Burn-Murdoch, who documented the results, “The decline is overwhelmingly among those on the progressive left, in effect nudging each successive generation’s politics further to the right. … It is well established that children’s values are strongly shaped by those of their parents. A growing left-right birth rate gap will slow that liberalising conveyor belt.”
The reason for this drop in the birthrate for progressives seems obvious, given their political concerns. First and foremost is abortion. The Democrat Party has increasingly made abortion a front-and-center platform issue. If anything, Democrat leadership has become even more extreme on the issue. Their other leading issues, such as climate change, which blames humans as the primary cause of “dangerous” global warming, tacitly if not explicitly envision a future with fewer, not more, people on the planet. Then there is the Left’s push for LGBTQ ideology and “transgenderism,” both of which inhibit and preclude natural population growth, via celebrating and normalizing sexual deviancy that produces no natural families.
Democrats’ repeated attacks on traditional family dynamics, parental rights, school choice, and masculinity have proven to produce a shrinking party that is not only chasing moderate voters away, but is also limiting the most fundamental way populations grow.
To put it bluntly, the Democrats’ political ideology is self-sabotaging.
