Four of these myths – and the facts refuting them – are presented below.
Myth: Federal law enforcement is ignoring the high-crime areas of Washington, D.C.
Fact: 48% of the non-immigration arrests between August 9-17 took place in high-crime Wards 7 and 8.
Myth: Washington, D.C. doesn’t have a serious crime problem.
Fact: Washington, D.C.’s murder rate is the 4th Highest in the nation and six times higher than that of New York City.
Myth: Federal involvement in D.C. policing isn’t necessary and won’t affect crime in the district.
Fact: Violent crime in the Nation’s Capital dropped 22% in the first week of federal police assistance.
Myth: Restaurant business in Washington, D.C., fell dramatically as a result of the deployment of federal law enforcement.
