Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem revealed Indiana’s “Speedway Slammer,” a successor to the “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility in Florida.
The facility will add 1,000 beds to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s detention capacity and follows several other proposed iterations of “Alligator Alcatraz.”
“COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer. Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds,” Noem said in a press release shared with the Washington Examiner.
“Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self-deport now using the CBP Home App,” she added.
The “Alligator Alcatraz” successor will be located at the Miami Correctional Facility near Bunker Hill, Indiana, and will house the “worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens arrested by ICE.” The new beds are a partnership between ICE and the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Gov. Mike Braun (R-IN) expressed support for the new detention beds in the press release.
“We are proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Noem as they remove the worst of the worst with this innovative partnership,” he said. “Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states.”
Noem told CBS on Monday that other possible detention centers are under consideration in Arizona, Nebraska, and Louisiana. She’s prioritizing locations with airport runways, presumably to aid in rapid air deportation of illegal immigrants.
“The locations we’re looking at are right by airport runways that will help give us an efficiency that we’ve never had before,” Noem said, adding that she’s gauged interest among state leaders. “Most of them are interested [and] many of them have facilities that may be empty or underutilized.”
The homeland security secretary has been tasked with spending an unprecedented amount of funds allocated by the federal government on immigration enforcement and ICE. Congress set aside about $170 billion for immigration enforcement, with $75 billion of that directed toward ICE with the passage of the federal budget bill.
ICE wants to hire more immigration officers to achieve its deportation goals, offering new hires a $50,000 signing/retention bonus.

“Want to mass deport illegals from Los Angeles? http://JOIN.ICE.GOV today and get a 50K signing/retention bonus. Make your family proud and be the hero America needs,” senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller posted on X.
Deportations reached a new high in July, averaging nearly 1,300 daily removals in the two weeks ending July 26. Miller said in May that they were aiming for 3,000 daily deportations. To do so, they’ll need more detention bed space like that offered by the new “Speedway Slammer.”
