September Social Security direct payment worth $967 goes out in 25 days

September Supplemental Security Income payments, worth up to $967, will go out to recipients in 25 days.

While SSI payments typically go out at the start of every month, September’s payment goes out the last Friday before next month, on Aug. 29, since Sept. 1 is a holiday. If the first day of a month falls on a holiday or weekend, SSI payments will be issued the previous business day

Beneficiaries are people with limited income who are either blind, 65 and older, or have a qualifying disability.

The amount recipients receive varies based on several factors, including the number of people filing. Individuals, for instance, can receive up to $967, couples filing together can receive $1,450, and essential people providing necessary care to SSI recipients can receive up to $484.

January SSI payments increased by 2.5% to keep pace with inflation.

Beyond the previous prerequisites to receive SSI payments, recipients must also be either U.S. citizens or noncitizens in one of the alien classifications granted by the Department of Homeland Security.
