The FBI launched a criminal investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey over their handling of the inquiry investigating possible ties between President Donald Trump and Russia.
Department of Justice sources speaking with Fox News said CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence of criminal misconduct from Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel. The referral was received, and a criminal investigation is underway, though no further details have been given. Details were even more sparse on Comey, aside from the fact that a criminal investigation was opened.
The sources told the outlet that the two cases are connected, and the FBI views their interactions as a “conspiracy.”
Among the allegations being investigated are allegedly false statements given to Congress.
The investigations come a week after Ratcliffe declassified a “lessons learned” review of the creation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, which found questionable conduct on Brennan’s part. The review found that the agency heads’ decision to include the infamous Steele Dossier “ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment.”
The review revealed that Brennan pushed for the inclusion of the Steele Dossier, contradicting his 2023 testimony to the House Judiciary Committee.
“Despite these objections, Brennan showed a preference for narrative consistency over analytical soundness,” the new CIA review said. “When confronted with specific flaws in the Dossier by the two mission center leaders – one with extensive operational experience and the other with a strong analytic background – he appeared more swayed by the Dossier’s general conformity with existing theories than by legitimate tradecraft concerns.”
Brennan was even found to have written his position, saying, “My bottom line is that I believe that the information warrants inclusion in the report.”
DAN BONGINO SAYS NEW EVIDENCE FROM FBI NOT ‘FLATTERING’ FOR JAMES COMEY
Comey has also been scrutinized recently, particularly by Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino. Last month, he claimed to have found a box of Comey-era evidence that had been “hidden.”
“We found documents, documents that were not where they should have been, and they were not good, flattering documents for Jim Comey,” Bongino said on Fox News’s Hannity. “So the hubris displayed by a man like Jim Comey, who disgraced the FBI numerous times with his role in Crossfire Hurricane and other abominations. It’s just kind of stunning that he continues to attack our leadership when we have to clean up the mess Jim Comey created, as we continue to find stuff from his era in vintage.”
