The Republican-led House narrowly passed the “big, beautiful bill” in May following intense debate within the Republican caucus. Still, the legislation faces hurdles in the Senate, where some Republicans oppose the bill, including Sen. Rand Paul, who says he is a “no” because it will raise the debt ceiling.
But no concern — not even national debt — outweighs the most vital effect of this legislation — funding mass deportations.
When Republicans gathered at the Republican National Convention in July of 2024, they weren’t holding up signs that said, “Fix the Deficit,” “Cut Down The Debt,” or whatever iteration you prefer. They were holding up signs that read, “Mass Deportations Now.”
A country can recover from spending too much, but it cannot recover from being overrun. And to be clear, concerns about the deficit and national debt are, of course, fair and legitimate. Republicans should spend the next four years slashing reckless spending and restoring fiscal sanity. But we shouldn’t sacrifice sovereignty just because we haven’t balanced the budget sheet yet.
The multitrillion-dollar legislation advances other priorities of President Donald Trump, like no tax on tips, permanently extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and funding defense and energy initiatives.
But perhaps most important, according to a fact sheet from the White House, the legislation will finish the border wall by constructing “701 miles of primary wall, 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary barriers, and 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers.”
The legislation will also boost “Border Patrol and ICE agents on the frontlines,” providing “funding to fire 10,000 new ICE personnel, 5,000 new customs officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents to detain and deport at least one million illegal immigrants annually,” according to the fact sheet.
This is not just policy — it’s national survival. We can survive the legislation, but we can’t survive open borders.
Under then President Joe Biden the country didn’t see a surge in illegal immigration; it saw a flood. More than 10 million illegal aliens entered the country, overwhelming cities, bankrupting social programs, and devastating American communities.
It’s time to reverse that disaster, because the country cannot survive the consequences of mass migration. The kind of illegal alien influx seen under the Biden administration isn’t merely policy failure — it is a cultural wrecking ball. It’s not that America doesn’t want to welcome some newcomers — but without assimilation, there is no America. And assimilation on any meaningful scale is impossible when millions arrive illegally and remain indefinitely.
As Alexander Hamilton warned in 1802, “The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common National sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias, and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education and family.”
Mass migration — and allowing the hordes of illegal aliens to remain in the country — will destroy the country precisely because it dissolves that “common National sentiment.” It disrupts the “uniformity of principles,” introduces foreign allegiances, and severs the deep-rooted ties of tradition and shared identity that bind a republic together.
So to Republicans: Pay the price for sovereignty or lose the country for good.
