CNN conservative commentator Scott Jennings is reportedly open to replacing outgoing Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) if President Donald Trump gives him the go-ahead.
“If the president wants me, I’ll run,” Jennings, a Kentucky native, said at an afterparty following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, according to a report. “If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate.”
Jennings has previously served as a special assistant to former President George W. Bush and has been described as an adviser to McConnell.
Currently, the 47-year-old political strategist is going viral battling left-wing pundits on everything from DEI and illegal immigration to the state of President Donald Trump’s administration on CNN’s NewsNight With Abby Phillip.
“He’s defending me all the time on CNN, and he defends me really well, but he can’t go too far because if he goes too far, he’ll get fired,” Trump said about Jennings during a Tuesday night rally in Michigan.
“I said, ‘You’re amazing. You can take it right to the edge.’ And, he really does a good job.”

“Michigan, we were flying in here today, and I said, ‘Look at these farms. I’ve got to get a farm in Michigan because when you own as many libs as I do, you gotta put a place to put ’em all,’” Jennings said after he joined Trump on the stage.
McConnell, who has been the longest-serving Senate leader of either party, announced his retirement in February.
“Seven times, my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate,” McConnell said in his remarks. “Every day in between, I’ve been humbled by the trust they’ve placed in me to do their business right here.”
“Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last.”
TRUMP’S 100-DAY EXECUTIVE BLITZ SHIFTS TO LAND MINES AHEAD
Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) have both announced their intention to seek McConnell’s seat, but Trump has not made any formal endorsement.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Jennings’s team but did not receive an immediate response.
