France: Muslim is ‘Seized by a Momentary Fit of Madness’

Order Robert Spencer’s new book, Holy Hell: Islam’s Abuse of Women and the Infidels Who Enable It: HERE.

There is madness everywhere in Europe and North America, and it’s increasing? What can we possibly do about this alarming outbreak of mental illness?

The conventional wisdom still remains in place: most politicians and a large segment of the public assume that Islam is a religion of peace; that Islamic jihadis are “extremists” with only a dim understanding of their own religion, and with more in common with “extremists” of other faiths than with their fellow Muslims; and that anyone who believes otherwise is a racist, bigoted “Islamophobe.”

That much we know, or think we know. The only problem is that virtually every day, there are new additions to the ever-growing Everest of evidence that this conventional wisdom is not only false, but is actively impeding any effective resistance to the advance of Islamic jihad activity in the West.

Take, for example, the case of Aymen B. (European media routinely conceal the surnames of accused criminals), a 43-year-old Muslim from Tunisia who walked into a church on Holy Saturday, April 4, the day before Easter. The French-language publication Valeurs Actuelles reported Monday that according to “police sources,” the grateful immigrant was “taken into custody after entering the Saint-Clément Church in Arpajon (Essonne) and shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ multiple times.”

“Allahu akbar” means “Allah is greater,” i.e., greater than your god. To scream it out in a church is a particular declaration of the supremacy, superiority, and victory of Islam. The scream of “Allahu akbar” is also designed to “strike terror in the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60). 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta reminded himself to “shout, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.” For that reason, jihadis routinely scream it while they are in the process of doing violence to non-Muslims.

Aymen B. doesn’t appear to have entered the church intending to do violence to non-Muslims, although while he was there, he “shoved a female worshipper inside the church.” He also “knelt down before prostrating himself on the floor to pray; he then stood back up and knocked over several objects.”

In praying Islamic prayers inside the church, Aymen may have been tacitly laying claim to the building for Islam. Legend has it that when Islamic jihadis conquered Jerusalem in the seventh century, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Sophronius, invited the caliph Umar to pray inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Umar magnanimously declined, according to the story, saying: “Do you understand, O patriarch, why I did not pray within the church? … If I had prayed in the church it would be ruined for you. For it would be taken from your hands and after I am gone the Muslims would seize it saying, ‘Umar prayed here.’”

Aymen was no caliph, but Europeans should be wary about Muslims who enter churches and pray Islamic prayers. Public Islamic prayer in places such as Times Square and blocking city streets is a declaration of dominance; prayer inside churches could turn out to be a prelude to future ownership claims from Muslims who are less interested in being magnanimous than Umar was in the legend. After all, European churches are mostly nearly empty, and Muslims are increasing in number on the continent by the day. Why should all these buildings go unused while Muslims need places to pray?

Valeurs Actuelles reports also that “four people, including the priest, were present in the building at the time of the incident.” Risking accusations of “Islamophobia,” the priest contacted the police, and Aymen was duly taken into custody. “Following his arrest, Aymen B. underwent a psychiatric evaluation, which concluded that he possessed full mental capacity.” That is extremely surprising, as generally Western European authorities, as unwilling as they are even to admit that such a thing as Islamic jihad even exists, classify all Islamic jihadis as mentally ill. In this case, however, that wasn’t going to fly.

A different excuse, however, was swiftly found. Aymen’s “home was also searched. Although the search yielded no results, it was determined that the individual had consumed a large quantity of cannabis.” And as if on cue, Aymen himself “confessed that he had been seized by a momentary fit of madness and admitted to having smoked a joint just prior to the incident.” He claimed he was so stoned out of his mind that he “had not realized the nature of his actions.” And it’s true: who hasn’t smoked a joint and then decided to drop by the local church, scream “Allahu akbar,” and start shoving people around?

Aymen’s phone told a different story: “Upon searching his mobile phone, officers discovered that he had conducted some intriguing searches; specifically, the individual had searched online for ‘Al Jazeera’ and ‘Bin Laden.’ He was taken into police custody, though he was later released.”

That’s good. After all, what harm could this poor fellow conceivably do? And what glorious benefits his presence brings to France! Everything will be fine, Infidels. It was just a momentary fit of marijuana-induced madness. Sure, it looked like jihadist intimidation, but don’t be “Islamophobic”! Never forget that diversity, contrary to all appearances, is our strength!
