Anti-Israel Art In – A Holocaust Survivor Nearly Shut Out

Order Jamie Glazov’s new book, ‘United in Hate: The Left’s Romance with Tyranny, Terror, and Hamas’: HERE.

A riddle for our times: when does the use the ‘N word,’ promotion of political violence and terrorism, denial of war crimes, and insults to U.S. service members qualify a person as role model for middle school students? Answer: when that person is the pretty young wife of socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

In a case of glaring hypocrisy, a Brooklyn public middle school showcased antisemitic art created by Rama Duwaji, the infamous Jew-hating wife of NYC Mayor Mamdani, while attempting to block Holocaust survivor Sami Steigmann from speaking at the school because his pro-Israel views were deemed too political.

MS 447, located in Boerum Hill, featured Duwaji’s protest-oriented illustrations in a course called “Art for Social Change” which was presented to seventh graders at the school.

“Students have been busy throughout this unit thinking about their own deep culture, their identities, their interests and activities, and social justice issues connected to one, some, or all of these,” explained teacher Joy Cannon in a note to parents about the course. “They have looked at mentor art and artists like Misty Copeland, Kendrick Lamar, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Rama Duwaji, Libre Gutierrez, and Marianne Williamson.”

An instructional slide used in the class and replicated in the New York Post displays Dawaji’s illustrations which include captions such as “Stillness of Displacement,” “People Will Rise Against Tyranny,” “Pulse of Protest,” and “Quiet Refusal to Be Spoken For.”

“What is the message in Syrian-American Rama Duwaji’s art?” the caption on the slide asks students. “How do you think her deep culture shapes what she cares about and what she creates?”

So what qualifies Duwaji to serve as a “mentor” to adolescents?  It certainly isn’t her violent, conspiratorial, and anti-Semitic social media posts dating back to her teenage years.

The Washington Free Beacon made a thorough study of Duwaji’s claims on social media and exposed her glaring Jew hatred and contempt for America and Israel.

A few highlights among her posts and reposts:

“*taps mic* American soldiers fighting in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom,” the post read. “They are mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians and fighting to maintain American hegemony. That is all, thank you! *drops mic*”

“You can’t blame muslims for terrorism because they didn’t construct, fund nor train Al-Qaeda. White People did that too.”

“Fuck #TelAviv. Shouldn’t exist in the first place. They’re occupiers.”

“@_AlyaF Helllll yeah, nigga. Super duper genius* excuse you.”

Duwaji also made multiple posts praising Palestinian terrorists including infamous airline hijacker Leila Khaled, glorifying the First Intifada which was marked by acts of terrorism against Jewish civilians, and denying the well-founded accusations of rape and torture committed by Hamas on October 7.

The mayor’s wife has also notably used her artistic talents to promote the work of other jihadist anti-Semites.

“Duwaji provided a featured illustration for an essay by Susan Abulhawa, an author who called Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack ‘spectacular,’ has bemoaned what she calls ‘Jewish supremacist vampires,’ and said Jewish Israelis are ‘rootless soulless ghouls,’” the Free Beacon reported.

MS 447’s decision to feature Duwaji’s art in a class for middle schoolers is sufficient to qualify as a scandal. But the public school’s subsequent attempts to block a speech from 86-year-old Holocaust survivor Sami Steigmann highlight the blatant hypocrisy and Jew hatred at the heart of public education in New York City.

MS 447 principal Arin Rusch rejected parent requests to have Steigmann address the middle schoolers, writing to a parent that the Holocaust survivor would not be “right for our public school setting, given his messages around Israel and Palestine.”

Rusch made these comments without ever talking with Steigmann who acknowledged his pro-Israel views but stated, “I do not talk about politics in school. It’s not a forum to talk about politics.”

Of Principal Rusch, he noted, “She didn’t have the courtesy to call me,” and added that the refusal to allow him to speak was “censorship, absolutely.”

Only after a protracted media shaming did Rusch reverse her decision and allow the event with Steigmann to go forward in February.

“Did I say anything about Palestine, did I ever mention it? No,” he said at a press conference following his speech.

“The Holocaust must be taught forever and ever because it’s the best example [of] what hate can do — not only to a person, but to a group of people, to a nation, to the world,” he added.

“MS 447 a Brooklyn middle @NYCSchools originally refused a Holocaust survivor over falsehoods but had no issue teaching @NYCMayor wife’s antisemitic artwork!!” posted Moshe Spern, a NYC public high school teacher and head of Jewish United Teachers posted on X. “Help this make sense???”

“The dangerous indoctrination being perpetrated in our public schools is already out of control,” posted the EndJewHatred account on Instagram. “This is what institutional failure looks like. Jewish history and advocacy are being pushed out of our public schools in favor of indoctrination and terror-supporting narratives.”

With the Mamdanis now occupying Gracie Mansion, there is likely much more public indoctrination in Jew hatred to come.
