The president’s new order comes as Congress continues struggling to pass funding for the Department of Homeland Security, one that Democrats have turned down due to funding going toward ICE.
In a Truth Social post Sunday, Trump said he would be sending ICE to airports to help TSA agents “who have have stayed on the job despite the fact that the Radical Left Democrats, who are only focused on protecting hard line criminals who have entered our Country illegally, are endangering the USA by holding back the money that was long ago agreed to with signed and sealed contracts, and all.”
He also noted that the controversy surrounding ICE could overshadow its effort to help end airport chaos.
“But watch, no matter how great a job ICE does, the Lunatics leading the incompetent Dems will be highly critical of their work,” Trump said. “THEY WILL DO A FANTASTIC JOB. The great Tom Homan is in charge!!!”
On Saturday evening, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced a bill to solely fund TSA and continue the fight with other DHS agencies. His effort failed along party lines, the sixth failure to fund DHS.
Prior to the vote, Trump had threatened to replace TSA workers with ICE and placed heavy emphasis on ICE’s role in arresting illegal immigrants, saying agents would focus on “those from Somalia, who have totally destroyed, with the approval of a corrupt Governor, Attorney General, and Congresswoman, Ilhan Omar, the once Great State of Minnesota.”
The continued failure of funding DHS has prompted Trump to air his frustrations with Democrats, who have been one of the main causes a funding bill cannot pass.
“Now with the death of Iran, the greatest enemy America has is the Radical Left, Highly Incompetent, Democrat Party!” Trump said following his announcement that ICE would assist TSA.
SENATE REPUBLICANS STRIKE DOWN SCHUMER’S ‘CONVOLUTED’ EFFORT TO FUND TSA
Major airports have felt the pressure of DHS funding failures, with airports in Atlanta and Houston experiencing TSA wait times of over two hours.
Airport security workers have called out sick or quit their jobs since the partial shutdown deprived them of their paychecks. TSA agents have not been paid since the shutdown began Feb. 14.
