Islam’s Classroom Takeover in Philly

In 2017, the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) conned its way into the Philadelphia school system in the name of “student safety and inclusion.”

CAIR then went into action and orchestrated a series of lesson plans, training sessions and workshops for students and educators that advocated the elimination of certain terms like “jihadists,” “Islamic terrorists,” or even “radical Islamic terrorists” when it came to teaching about September 11, 2001.

The plan was brilliant, and the Philadelphia School District bought it lock, stock, and barrel. The teaching mantra was this: A Muslim attack in the name of Allah was not to be named Muslim or Islamic. Educators and students were reminded that these acts of mass murder had absolutely nothing to do with Islam. Instead, the emphasis was placed on the rare post 9/11 attacks on individual Muslims in American cities, and on the growth of so-called Islamophobia (aka, intelligent discernment) in society at large.

Picture a K-12 classroom filled with mostly black students, a good portion of the girls in headscarves. In the back rows there is a smattering of white students, totally outnumbered and outpowered, some of whom have learned to ape the antics and behaviors of the majority, either because they see it as cool or need to do it as a matter of survival. Imagine the CAIR-inspired class lessons for the day – delivered by an impassioned Philly educator who hates Trump and wants ICE eliminated – seminars entitled, “What is Sharia?”, “Out of the Blue: Police Conduct Seminar,” and “Fake News: Mass Media.”

Don’t forget that in many Philly schools the bell rings early for students who want to protest protest ICE.

Somewhere in the mix, if there’s time, Philly educators throw in English and math lessons. Since cursive is not taught, all the students print in big block letters like developmentally disabled children in sheltered workshops. This is the City of Brotherly and Sisterly Love.

In Philadelphia, 2/3 of Muslims are black and 80% or roughly 2/3 were raised as Christians. This ever-growing and expanding trend caused Islamist Watch to report in 2017 that black men are becoming Muslim by the tens of thousands in the United States each year. The Muslim male uniform in Philly – beard, serwal, izar, and kufi – is everywhere, but the women in hijabs seem to outnumber them. All of this together has become a collective badge, screaming, “I am a Muslim!” It is only matched as a visual ID by Western Christians on Ash Wednesday (ashes on their forehead). Of course, the occasional rare sighting of nuns in traditional garb is yet another Christian identifier, but obviously no match for the Muslim dress invasion of the urban landscape.

Urban Muslims in uniform call for visible signs of Christian solidarity. Maybe it’s time for Christians to wear crosses around their necks to fight the plague of invisibility.

CAIR – the organization that has the Philadelphia public school system in its grip – faced criticism in 2023 after its executive director and co-founder, Nihad Awad, stated he was “happy” to see the October 7 terror attack on Israel.

“The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege – the walls of the concentration camp – on Oct. 7,” Awad said. “And, yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land and walk free into their land that they were not free to walk in.”

More exploding propaganda stuffed into the immature heads of K-12 students in Philly. What does this lead to? More brainwashing; more leftwing groupthink; more Palestinian flags and symbols pinned to kiddie bookbags, as well as younger and younger students participating in city protests and acting like deranged liberal woke white women.

And yet clueless CAIR insists that Muslim students “are facing increased rates of bullying, emotional abuse, physical threats, and verbal epithets due to their faith, race, or ethnicity.”

This is certainly not the case according to one Philadelphia public school teacher I know.

He works at a high school with a female principal who has far-left views. While this is not surprising in Philly, the principal apparently wants all the teachers at the school to adopt her political beliefs. She wants an army of robot teacher progressives, something my friend, as a conservative, cannot do.

“I’m being marginalized by the principal,” he told me.

“I’m pretty sure it is politically related, i.e. she thinks I am not onboard with her far-left views,” he added.  “I can’t prove it but it seems the most likely reason.  But like many on the far left, they say they believe in diversity but in practice they don’t accept any deviance from leftist orthodoxy.”

He went on to say his public high school is making a huge deal out of Ramadan.

“But of course no mention is ever made of Lent. At the peak of the pro-Palestine rallies, this principal allowed students to leave school carrying Palestinian flags to protest downtown. Lately, the same principal has been allowing students to leave school early to protest ICE.”

How can any public school system get away with indoctrinating its students in leftist ideology?

While that ideologically crazy principal should be fired, that won’t happen when so many high schools in the city are doing the same thing.

Edison High School is one example. This month 6ABC reported that students at that Hunting Park school were allowed to leave class to attend an ICE protest. In January 2026, a similar situation occurred at Girard College.

We might also ask why these schools are going out of their way to promote Islam. These schools go out of their way to create designated prayer spaces and fasting rooms for Muslim students. Why?

My teacher friend remarked,

“Muslim students are allowed to leave class to pray.  A special area is set aside for that to happen. I wonder what would happen if Protestants asked for a Bible prayer group or if Catholics asked for a rosary group!  Why don’t the church / state rules – the separation of church and state – apply to Muslims?  It’s also a shame that so few children in Philadelphia identify as Christian. Their parents should demand equal time.”

Novelist Lionel Shiver, whose latest novel, “A Better Life,” details the bitter consequences of a progressive New York woman who invites a migrant to live with her family, said in an interview, “We need a CATASTROPHE’ to save the West from illegal migration and woke culture.”

This might very well be true, since woke culture is a luxury culture, and luxury cultures don’t fare very well during catastrophes.
