The Oscars Happened Sunday, Just FYI
Not that any of you care – I certainly didn’t – but the annual smug snore-fest known as the Academy Awards show happened last Sunday under security tighter than Jane Fonda’s facelift. Since Hollywood is the most isolated Progressive bubble in the entire world, including academia, it featured all the condescending jabs at Trump and MAGA that we’ve come to expect from these insanely privileged, pampered, self-righteous, unlikeable snobs who trumpet their open contempt for flyover Americans at every opportunity.
I won’t bother mentioning who won or lost what, since none of the films in competition was worth watching, but a couple of points are worth noting.
One, the In Memoriam segment went on for a full 15 minutes, partly due to a special focus on murdered filmmaker Rob Reiner, and yet still managed to omit the Brigitte Bardot, who passed away at age 91 from cancer at the tail end of 2025. The iconic sex symbol and French New Wave star of And God Created Woman, Contempt, and Viva Maria!, Bardot did not appear in the on-air montage or any special tributes. Every year there is outrage over someone being left out of the segment, but Bardot’s snub was surely due to her controversially right-wing positions in later life, such as her multiple convictions in France for “Islamophobic hate speech” and support of politician Marine Le Pen and the National Rally party.
Similarly, at France’s César Awards – their Oscars equivalent – in February 2026, a memorial tribute to her reportedly drew boos and shouts of “racist” from the audience. She can be proud to be rejected by these virtue-signaling Left-wing egotists, who are never seen in public without sporting a pro-Hamas keffiyeh or “ICE out” pin. Working in that field but standing apart from the crowd takes courage, conviction, common sense, and a moral compass that doesn’t spin with the cause du jour.
The second point is that, even though ratings for the Oscars are gradually creeping up from an all-time low in 2021, the show remains nowhere near its pre-pandemic popularity, and never will again, because Hollywood quite simply has become irrelevant. Despite all their desperate yearning to be adored, Hollywood stars and filmmakers have driven away American audiences with their compulsive hatred of Christian America, their story-destroying political messaging, their obsession with DEI and LGBTQIA+ promotion, and their insistent reliance on sequels, remakes, and tired genres like Marvel superhero flicks. Hollywood now makes unwatchable movies only for itself, and then celebrates itself to an absurd length (nearly four hours) on Oscars night while America remains happily oblivious of it.
The Beautiful Chaos of a Mother’s Heart
Now that I’ve bashed the Oscars and all its denizens, there was a counterculture moment during the ceremony that is worth highlighting. Actress Jessie Buckley – I don’t know who she is or the movie she won for, Hamnet – took the stage to accept her Best Actress award – the first ever for an Irish actress, I understand – and took the opportunity not to shout “Free Palestine!” or “Fuck ICE!” but to praise marriage and motherhood.
“Fred,” she began, addressing her husband Freddie Sorensen, “I love you, man. You’re the most incredible dad, you’re my best friend, and I want to have 20,000 more babies with you.
“And I love my little girl, who is eight months, who has absolutely no idea what’s going on, and is probably dreaming of milk,” Buckley continued. “But this [winning an Oscar] is kind of a big deal, and I love you, and I love being your mom, and I can’t wait to discover life beside you.”
She went on to laud “the capacity of a mother’s love” and then concluded her remarks by declaring, “It’s Mother’s Day in the UK today, so I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart.”
Cultural shift

Considering that in the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, actress Michelle Williams rather sickeningly credited her career success to the ability to have an abortion, prompting her sister thespians to hail her as an “inspiration” and “brilliant,” Buckley’s paean to motherhood was a welcome note that just might mark the beginning of a culture shift.
Cleese Defends His Christian Country
Speaking of entertainment: former Monty Python comedian John Cleese, not exactly known to be a cheerleader of conservatism, has taken a social media stance that is unexpectedly bold in England, a country which once ruled an empire on which the sun never set, but which is now colonized by a burgeoning Islamic minority under the protection of multiculturalist elites like Keir Starmer. Cleese has been posting critiques online recently that could clearly be deemed “Islamophobic,” which under the Starmer regime is the most heinous crime a white British citizen can commit.
He approvingly retweets, for example, many posts slamming Islam as totalitarian, murderously antisemitic, subversive, and unassimilable in a European liberal democracy. Occasionally he adds his own sardonic commentary, such as when he observed, regarding Yezidis who faced genocide for refusing to convert to Islam, “That’s what happens if you offend them [Muslims]. And they get offended very easily. You could almost call them a bit ‘touchy.’ But that would be offensive.”

On Monday, Cleese retweeted an X post from conservative London Assembly member Susan Hall, who wrote,
We must fight for our culture and remain a Christian Country. It’s essential that we bother to go out and vote for politicians that have this country’s best interest at heart. Not those that are obsessed with issues elsewhere.
Cleese added his own take, warning his fellow countrymen that Britain will literally no longer exist if its Christian values “are replaced by Islamic ones”:
The UK has always been based at the deepest level on Christian values, regardless of dogma. Despite the many mistakes made by churches, for centuries British people have been influenced by Christ’s teaching. If these values are replaced by Islamic ones, this will not be Britain any more.

To which a respondent wrote,
Mr Cleese, you and your boomer celeb ilk mocked Christianity relentlessly, and not just through [Monty Python movie] Life Of Brian … and now you are wondering what happened to the Britain of Christian values … do you read what you have written?
Fair point, but if Cleese has finally seen the light — at least, about Islam — then better late than never. Although it may be too late for England.
