As Scott Singer campaigns for U.S. Congress as a “Republican,” the political machine he built in Boca Raton is already lining up its preferred successor for mayor. That person is current Boca Councilman Andy Thomson – a Democrat and gun control advocate whom Singer allegedly endorsed in 2022 over Republican Peggy Gossett-Seidman in a contentious race for the Florida House.
Despite his Republican label, Singer has repeatedly aligned himself with Democrats and progressive causes – a pattern that has angered conservatives across Palm Beach County and raised serious questions about the authenticity of his political identity.
Condemnation from Republican Leadership
Singer’s support of liberal Thomson was so controversial that it drew condemnation from Republican leadership.
Then-Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Mike Barnett went as far as to threaten Singer with party “censure.” Barnett described Thompson as a “woke, tax and spend Biden Democrat” and stated, “By endorsing Thomson, Singer is endorsing open borders, bloated government budgets, and all of Thomson’s tax hike votes during his tenure on Boca’s City Council.”
A Pattern of Endorsing Democrats
Singer’s support for Thomson was not an isolated incident.
In 2021, Singer publicly endorsed Democrat Monica Mayotte over Republican candidate and GOP leader Brian Stenberg in a city council race. Mayotte has championed progressive causes, including transgender policies thatallow biological men to compete in girls’ sports.
This pattern – endorsing Democrats while branding himself a Republican – has fueled accusations that Singer is a classic Republican In Name Only (RINO).
Jack Furnari, the founder and publisher of the conservative Florida Jolt and President of BizPac, wrote, regarding Singer’s support for Democrats, “I’ve met a lot of slimy, lying politicians, but none of them were as bad as the current Mayor Of Boca Raton, Scott Singer…” Furnari said that his publication has been “documenting Singer’s lies and half-truths.”
Now the Democrat Singer helped elevate in 2022 is preparing to take over the mayor’s office.
Voting the Same Way – Almost Every Time
If Singer’s alleged support of Thomson raised eyebrows in 2022, their voting record over the past two years makes the alliance even clearer.
From the beginning of 2024 through the end of 2025, during meetings of the Boca Raton City Council, Singer and Thomson voted the same way roughly 98 percent of the time. Over that two-year period, the council recorded over 430 roll-call votes, and Singer and Thomson stood together on the overwhelming majority of them.
Such alignment is rarely accidental. It reflects two politicians who share the same political worldview and governing philosophy.
For residents paying attention, it reinforces what many in Boca have been saying for years: Singer governs far more like a Democrat than a Republican.
Honoring Anti-Gun and Pro-Trans Groups
Singer has used the authority of the mayor’s office to elevate causes and organizations closely aligned with progressive activism. One of the most visible examples has been his enthusiastic support for the anti-gun and pro-trans activist organization Moms Demand Action.
Singer has issued proclamations honoring the group and even appeared at its “WEAR ORANGE” events, where activists openly advocate firearm bans, promote the transgender movement, and routinely demean, denounce, and seek to sabotage President Donald Trump.
These events are tied to the broader gun-control movement behind the March for Our Lives demonstrations, which Singer has helped lead. At one rally, protesters openly mocked Republicans with signsincluding: “THE ONLY THING EASIER TO BUY THAN A GUN IS A G.O.P. CANDIDATE” and one demanding the “REPEAL” and “REPLACE” of President Trump.
Singer stood among them.
He also joined a coalition of cities suing the State of Florida in an effort to overturn laws preventing municipalities from imposing their own gun restrictions. The lawsuit ultimately failed in the Florida Supreme Court, but Boca taxpayers were still forced to pay the legal bill.
These actions are straight out of the Democrat playbook. They are the actions of a dishonest politician, who calls himself “America First,” while comfortably advancing the destructive priorities of the political Left.
Selling Out Boca’s Public Lands
Singer’s critics also point to his support for controversial development proposals that would have handed valuable public land to private developers.
The most notorious example involved Memorial Park – the largest green space in downtown Boca Raton and a site dedicated to World War II veterans. Singer backed redevelopment proposals that would have allowed high-rise apartments and condominiums to be built on the property.
Residents reacted with outrage.
For many, the proposal symbolized a mayor more interested in accommodating developers than protecting the community’s history and quality of life. Opponents warned that the project would increase congestion, while permanently eliminating a cherished public space.
The backlash was fierce, and the controversy remains a sore point among Boca voters today.
Radical Muslim Associations
Perhaps the most troubling episode of Singer’s tenure involved his relationship with controversial Islamist figures connected to the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR).
In 2022, Singer issued an official proclamation declaring July “Muslim Heritage Month” on behalf of the mosque and even encouraged residents to “visit ICBR to socialize with its community and exchange knowledge and experience.”
The institution has faced scrutiny for past associations involving individuals linked to terrorist groups and antisemitic rhetoric calling for deadly violence against Jews. Yet Singer dismissed concerns when they were raised.
Can Singer be trusted to stand up to the jihad that’s taking place in our backyard?
Passing the Torch
Now, as Singer seeks higher office, the flawed political structure he built in Boca Raton appears ready to continue without him.
Andy Thomson – the Democrat Singer allegedly endorsed – is running to replace him as mayor. Considering their nearly identical voting records, the transition would amount to little more than a continuation of the same misguided policies and priorities.
For voters examining Singer’s congressional campaign, the implications are difficult to ignore:
- A Republican mayor who repeatedly endorses Democrats.
- A governing record that aligns almost perfectly with anti-gun and pro-trans Democrat Council Members.
- And a political legacy defined by progressive alliances, controversial proclamations, and policies that angered many local residents.
Can Republicans depend on Scott Singer to vote their values in Congress?
Singer may try to present himself as a conservative running in a Republican primary, but the political machine he leaves behind in Boca Raton tells the real story.
And it is not a Republican one.
