Democrats keep accusing everyone else of having a racism problem, meanwhile one of their top political strategists keeps pleading with them to stop hating a sizable portion of their electorate because of its race and sex.
I thought that James Carville had given up trying to reason with his party after the last few times he was nearly cancelled, but here he is explaining to Stephen Smith why racism and sexism is not a smart political strategy.
And why maybe Rep. Ilhan Omar shouldn’t be the party’s face.
JAMES CARVILLE:I have a lot of friends in in Minneapolis and people think, a lot of people think well of her, but she started attacking white males and I’m gonna say, wait a minute, let’s stop. Alright. In 2024, 72% of the people that voted were white. All right? That’s just a fact. Of that 72, probably 48% or 48 and a half, were male. So it’s somewhere around, I did the math on the thing, about 33% of the people that are gonna vote are gonna be white males. Well, it’s stupid to attack 33% of the voters… But we cannot, we have to get this mentality out that we can win national elections with white people ’cause you can’t.
STEPHEN A. SMITH, HOST: Without white people because you can’t.
JAMES CARVILLE: Yeah, right. Without white people, yes, you’re right. That we can somehow or another win an election without white males. It’s just insanity. It’s literally mathematical insanity, cultural insanity.
But the problem is that racists genuinely believe that the race they hate is evil and wicked and needs to die off or be suppressed. And this particular flavor of hatred has won so much legitimacy that it’s in the pop culture, in academia and everywhere.
Just swap one word in ‘academic works’ like “Ugly White People: Whiteness in Contemporary American Literature” and you’d have a hate crime that would forever marginalize you to the fringes.
When your party adopts messages like “We have to abolish whiteness” and conducts “Whiteness studies”, that’s a racism problem that the party isn’t just going to be talked out of. Much like the growing antisemitism among the Democrats, this stuff isn’t politically smart, it’s cultural. And cultural hatreds don’t just vanish away when you explain that they lose elections.
