Gov. Gavin Newsom off on his not very stealthy stealth presidential campaign stopped by the Pod Save Iran of former Obamaites like Jon Favreau and ridiculed Israel, called for cutting off military support and smeared it as an apartheid state. Basically, Newsom hit every Obamaworld talking point on Israel while talking with some of its loudest voices.
Asked by Pod Save America host Jon Favreau: “Do you think, looking down the road, that the United States should consider maybe, you know, rethinking our military support for Israel?”
Newsom replied: “It breaks my heart, because the current leadership in Israel is walking us down that path where I don’t think you have a choice about that consideration.”
Newsom said at the event, adding that some “are talking about it appropriately as sort of an apartheid state.”
The Israeli-American Civic Action Network, which is based in California, stated that referring to Israel as an apartheid state is “a slur, and one that provides rhetorical cover to those who seek Israel’s destruction.”
“California is also home to approximately 250,000 Israelis in the Los Angeles area alone—the largest Israeli diaspora community outside of Israel,” the group wrote. “They deserve a governor who represents them, not one who slanders their homeland on a book tour.”
The thing to understand about Gavin Newsom, really the only thing worth understanding, is he believes in nothing.
Here’s an excerpt of some of his statements right after Oct 7.
“As I reflect back on the extraordinary people I just met today in Israel, I am reminded of the deep connections between my home state and this country. A country that has faced many dark times before, and certainly is in one now. But amid this present struggle against terrorists are stories of unimaginable heroism — and unspeakable tragedy. I listened to the grief and terror in a mother’s voice as she spoke about her son — a Californian right now being held hostage in Gaza — whose arm was blown off by a terrorist’s grenade. I hugged a girl — another Californian, born in Los Angeles — who was shot in the leg by Hamas and left for dead, in truly horrific conditions.”
When the time was right, Newsom pivoted to calling for a ‘ceasefire’ with Hamas and his statement in Oct 2025 was about as bland as it could be. “Two years after Hamas’ attack on Israel, California mourns the lives lost on Oct. 7th and in the days since. Peace and healing will come only with the safe return of all hostages — and with real action from leaders to deliver the justice that everyone in the region deserves.”
After seeing some of the more recent polls in which a majority of Democrats are anti-Israel, Newsom made a full pivot to ridiculing, insulting and denouncing Israel.
Mind you, he’s left himself room to climb down because Gavin always has a back door. And then a back door on the back door. And if the winds blow the other way, he’ll claim he was just talking about Netanyahu.
Newsom’s two biggest challenges to getting the nomination were always going to be black voters and the Left.
He told black voters that he did poorly on his SATs and now he’s telling the Left that he hates Israel too. And when he’s speaking to Jewish voters, he’ll do the Kerry and Biden things and talk about his trip to Israel after Oct 7.
But make no mistake about it, it does mark the Democratic Party’s pivot into the full anti-Israel camp.
The leading 2028 nominee candidate is now openly anti-Israel. Kamala and Buttigieg have been vocally anti-Israel for a while. There is at the moment no leading Democratic presidential candidate who even pays lip service to being pro-Israel.
